Default Green Laser

I've decided that my 15-22 must have a green laser...

Been looking at the Laserlyte Kryptonyte. Anyone got one?

I don't about that laser. I've had this one on my 15-22 for about 2000 rounds and it is still working and holding zero.
Amazon.com: UTG Deluxe Tactical Green Laser Sight: Sports & Outdoors

Only problem I had was the cheap no-name included battery cut out under recoil. Replaced it with a Surfire battery and it's been fine since.

It is super bright, on paper at 15 yards at an indoor range it hurts if you stare at the dot. No problem while shooting as you only look at it long enough to press the trigger. I've used it in a pitch black tactical scenario (competition) with a rail mounted flashlight and it is the way to go.

Thumbs up Another option...

Since it's always good to have options...

I've had this one on my 15-22 for a few weeks...

NC Star Green Laser With Pressure Pad & Weaver Mount

It is VERY bright and has held the zero just fine!

Only problem is, I didn't buy it from rrages and I paid a little more...

Tight groups!

No7,

How does it perform in daylight? Distance on a sunny day?

Talking Going Green...

Hey Phil:

We've got high clouds today, some shadows are visible, and I can easily see the green dot out to 60 to 75 yards. Was using trees out in the back woods as "targets".

At the range the other day -- in full sun -- I'll admit, the green dot was tough to see; almost useless... But to be honest, I think that would be the case for any green laser in very bright sun.

That NC Star model also uses a CR123 battery, just like the one you posted, and so far I am pleased. It is at its best just before dusk or on cloudy days. To me, it was just "something else to add to the rail" as a fun/backup option to scope/sights, but I wouldn't rely on it for daytime sighting.

Have not tried it at night "yet" as the 22 is a little light for the coyotes we have around here...

Good luck.

Thanks. Sounds like your laser will do the trick. Mounted, how high is it from the top of the rail?

Sorry Phil, can't help you with that, as mine came with a barrel mount, and not the rail mount shown in the pix at rrages (which I actually would have preferred). From that pix, you may be able to guess-timate the height though.

I ordered the Kryptonyte from Midway. If nothing else, at least I'll have a laser that few others have. (why do I have the feeling that's not good)

$189.00 after $10 coupon from Midway + $4.95 shipping. Looking for it Wed. It will serve my Bushmaster too.

Belt_Fed said that my 15-22 has already saved me over $6000.00 in ammo over my Bushmaster. So.... I figure the least I could do is give a little back. Dang Belt_Fed and this disorder....

LOL!

As a S&W Forum member recently said-- "It's only money, isn't it?". And besides.... this is positively the last thing I buy for the 15-22...

Oooops. Meant to tell ya there's a Midway $20 coupon. So that would be $179.99. Actually, it's $20 off 200 or more... so something worth a penny or more would have to be added to the cart.

This is the firefield from Sportsmans guide
Firefield 5mw Green Laser Sight With Mount, Matte Black, Scopes, Fire Field, Firefield Green Laser Sight Mount Anodized Aluminum Tactical On Off Pressure Switch Adjustable Turrets at Sportsman's Guide
Lots of fun, held zero today after 300+ rounds.

At the range 25 yrds out

Gratuitous shot of me lazing the front door in the dark, 'cause it looks cool.

They really need to shrink these Diode's down so that LaserMax can make a guide rod version for my Beretta! I emailed LaserMax and they said it's not gonna happen in the foreseeable future

I have a viridian X5L, it's like having a light saber. It has the light as well which is not super bright but good enough if used correctly. Very nice piece of gear.

I have had 2 chicom green lasers on my AR, the recoil killed both of them. I took them apart and re focused the lasers and now they are used to annoy the cats.

I agree this gun has saved(?) me money, and i want one of those cool green lasers, but still have a hard time digesting the $250 price, heck, that's half the price of the gun!!! Right this coming from a guy who now has a $900 15-22...lol, god, i love what we can do with this gun. I think i'll wait till the price drops before i get one.

Yeah... when I started looking around at green lasers I went to Midway reviews. The first three or four reviews on the NcStar said it failed after the first few rounds with centerfire ammo. Since I wanted a laser to do double duty for the 15-22 and AR, I reluctantly dropped all the sub $100 lasers off the list.

After cruising the Internet.... The Lasermax Uni-Green, Viridian and Laserlyte K-15 looked to be green lasers that held up relatively well (though there were a few less than flattering reviews). Since it was for an AR style rifle the k-15 seemed to be the logical choice. And the below review in Jan this year on the K-15 sounded good to me.

[["Been using one for about 4 months now with no problems and nothing but great things to say about them. As for putting them through most of the paces we have beaten them up pretty good and used them in a lot of different enviornments. You will see them in action with Magpul Dynamcis at SHOT SHOW this month so stay tuned for more...

We shall see....

K-15 Range Report

The K-15 didn't meet the website claims but it surpassed my expectations. Popped in a new SureFire CR123 battery and headed to the range.

Laserlyte claim: "The green laser can be seen in daylight up to 100 yards." And they got a video of a guy shooting on a sunny day in the desert. --- Let's start out by giving that claim a big

Reality check:

Blue sky bright sunlight.-- If the Sun is shining directly 100% on your target.... 50 feet max. If the Sun is not directly beaming on your target you can see it 50 yards on a white target (green lasers like white) and most anything in a little shade. I spent the day shooting at 50 yard targets with a Northern exposure. I could see the green dot on white paper somewhat easily but could not see it on a black shoot-n-see. At 50 yards.... the dot looks to be about an inch or less.

Low light, significant clouds, dawn or dusk-- Clear bright beaming laser dot as far as you can see.

Night -- Wicked... wicked cool. Solid green beam like a light saber as far as the eye can see. You really won't believe it unless you see it.

Indoor range -- Forget about it. Way too bright. Need dark sunglasses.

--------------

The best thing about the K-15 is how it mounts on the top rail. It's low enough that any red dot and many powered optics can be used in tandem. It's narrow enough to not touch the bench when you lay down the rifle on either side-- big plus in my book.

The sight adjustments are hex, stiff and hold zero (at least on the 15-22 anyway) . Will beat it up on the AR and see how it does. Remote cord/pressure switch sucks--- It's too stiff with no feedback at all. Never even mounted it.

Tacticool factor..... well.... ya know that's why I bought it.

Must not be as bright as the Viridian because the Viridian *IS* visible in broad daylight and at the indoor range it's just so bright it draws too much attention from the standerby's

After reading my review of the performance of their product (I sent them an email) Laserlyte requested I send my unit back to them and issued me an RA number. I went to the range with it a couple more times and it has since intermittently stopped working between shots. I never did mount it on my AR. Anyway.... sending it back.

That looks cool. I hope it holds up well. My only experience with LaserLyte products is with this rail mounted red laser. It came as a package deal when I bought a Taurus 1911 with a rail. Honestly I hadn't even heard of LaserLyte when I bought the gun. I haven't been impressed either. The design makes it hard to adjust for windage and elevation when it's mounted in the pictanny holder and more importantly it cuts out randomly and simply won't turn back on. I don't know if I just got a bad laser or what. I doubt I will buy other products from them. Regardless, your green laser is very "tacti-cool" for sure.

Mine did the same thing, Phil. I first figured out that if I tapped the unit, the light would come back on. I finally figured out that the OEM battery is junk and replaced it with a new one and made sure the lid was tight.

I still like mine and the "gee whiz" factor is about 97.

Laserlyte doesn't play games with their warranty. Sent me a new one.

LOL!

With the new replacement laser I got a letter from them saying they couldn't duplicate the on-off claim I was describing..... so I sent them back a letter saying I couldn'duplicate their claim of 100yd visibilty in daylight.

Default Barska Combo

Just got my new AR-15 Scope and Green Laser Combo a 4x28 IR Electro Sight and Green Laser. Barska retails it for $425, but is on special now for $189. They claim the laser will reach out to 1000 m at night. The scope is 1/2" click adj for windage and elevation with a black recticle and two IR reicles, one Red and one Green. The Laser mounts on rails built in to the scope. Will install it tomorrow on my 15-22 and go to the desert Sat to test.

If you'll recall, I had the same problem at CPhil but I "solved" the problem w/ a battery that worked. Fast forward to a couple weeks ago:

Mine usually worked until it started not working on a regular basis. The same symptoms reappeared so I called them and they had me send it back to them.

I got it back yesterday w/ another dead battery--they left the switch on! Anyway, the form letter stated that they could not duplicate the symptoms but that it had been tested extensively and would work fine now. (?) They magnanimously included two batteries--I don't know if they are pre-dead or not). They sent a "tool kit" consisting of a couple of Allen wrenches, as well.

I then called the folks to see what the extensive testing entailed. Apparently, the extensive testing is unknown to the customer service lady and equally unknown to the "executive assistant". Here's the neat part: when I explained that the light works fine until it quits, usually after 5 or 6 .22 rounds, she was incredulous that I have not mentioned that when I wrote the letter w/ the problem!! And I quote "you didn't mention anything about recoil in your letter".

Apparently, she was surprised that their products are used on weapons that have recoil. My thinking is that if it quits on a .22, it probably wouldn't work long on a .460 Weatherby Magnum.

I have an awfully expensive cat toy now. Otis, the Golden Retriever, won't chase it!

I'm surprised they didn't send you a new one. Are you not going to send it back again? If nothing else, it will keep the k15 saga alive.

Belt_Fed picked up a new Viridian. Maybe he'll share his story about it and their CS rep.

ps. Pugsters, the Puggle, loves her BSA red laser. The green laser is a bit too bright for animals... cats are ok though

I'm going to call back on Tuesday and see if I can find someone w/ some sense......maybe someone that can see the irony in saying "could not duplicate the problem so we sent it back so it ought to work fine."

Is it the old familiar song and dance w/ a different outfit?

I don't have a cat but I do pester the neighbor's cats from 100 yards+ at night. Mine does nothing at 100 yards in the daylight--it does about 30 yards in the daylight if one shines it on something in the shade. Oh, I get it--cats are, too, animals--tasty, too, I'm told.

well, im glad you ask (i needed to vent)

Day 1: recieved new wp22 viridian laser, this thing is crazy bright and no problem for me to see in day light... very impressed

Day 2: (about a week later in real time) I took the wife out to play with the new wp22 on her new brushed chrome walther.. She decides that I should shoot it first so I did.. Every few rds it would shut off. You could turn it back on and it was as bright as it was before, but pull the trigger and off it would go again. Needless to say the old lady was pretty upset when she found out that the 17 dollar laser that was working I had removed and put on a 200 dollar non working one..

Phone call #1: I called viridian and got a CS rep and i told him which model I had and explained that it was shutting off every few rds.. He then tried to tell me that was a feature of the system that it is setup so that after a mag is emptied it will auto shut off so to not make the person holding it a target while they reload and can be programmed to different shot counts. I told him that was a great feature on the other models but mine was a wp22 and didnt have that feature.. his reply was well obviously it does. So after my head stopped spinning and my eye sight came back. I asked "nicely" for a superviser. He was very helpful and sent me shipping lable and assured me that my wp22 would be back in my hands in 7-10 days.. I thanked him and shipped it off

Email #1: (10 days later) we have recieved your wp22 laser and it will be processed. This takes 7-10 days and you will recieve a tracking number when its shipped..

Email #2: (my reply) I explained that I was disappointed in them as a company because I had been promissed a week or 2 without my laser at the max and now they are saying that Im looking at 3 to 4 weeks minimum.

Email #3 (their reply) it was the standard we are sorry for the missunderstanding but we will put a rush on it and have it expressed so you can have it back by the weekend..(remember this is the start of week 3 allready)

Email #4 (my reply) thank you very much

Weekend comes and goes and no laser

Email #5 (me to them) still have not recieved a functional wp22 that i paid for, thanx

Email #6 (their reply)was a invoice where they had shipped me a new one and nothing more

2 weeks pass and no laser

phone call #2: basicly the standard we are so sorry and ill include something extra (that came with it to start with) i said I dont want anything extra just what I paid for A FUNCTIONING WP22 LASER. She said it was her fault that they had no replacement parts to fix my old one so she had ordered me a new one to replace mine but didnt know they were out of stock.. but she had 2 on her desk and one was going to me and the other to some other poor soul.

Friday (end of week 5) there is a package on the door step..
Its a viridian Green laser system. And Im happy to say that it is all I paid for and more Its brighter than the first one and locks on tighter.. I just wish they had explained that stuff was on back order to start with. I can understand that, but i dont like to be promissed stuff over and over and it never happen...Im sure 99% of the time people have no problems with their products and never have to go threw this and their product is awesome to say the least I just hope my case is one that never happens again

Needless to say Im very happy with the product now and its all they claim it to be.. just wish they had been more honest to start with

They did include a bad a t-shirt..

It's amazing how far a little honest communications goes in the world of customer service, eh?

Now if I can just find some 36mm diameter picatinny rail rings I can mount my BLUE laser

Yes, they all must come from the same CS school! I'm glad CPhil asked about that because you must feel better now.

I'm curious about the feature that shuts the light off after the mag is emptied............it stays on if you only fire 2 or 3 shots? And then goes out after the mag is empty? I was taught to count the shots but if they have a new fangled "warning light", I guess that ought to work. Can you get one w/ a heated grip and iron sight defroster?

im pretty sure that feature is ment for swat and military use in low light or no light situations.. if your trying to swap out a mag in the dark and your laser is still on it makes you the brightest target in the room. Ive read where some set theirs up on 2 shots so that its on till you doble tap ten its off but its like any feature its a selling point wether you use it or not

I wanted to buy a green laser and was speaking to the tech at Lasermax. He asked why I wanted a green one. Told him it was the latest thing, military uses them, greater range etc etc. He laughed and said get the red one! He said there is no green diode so they have to use a red one and add additional components to convert it to green. This fact makes the cost much higher, battery life much much less than a red one, larger physical size and decreases the reliability. He said that unless you have a specific need that requires a green one stick with the red until they have a green diode which he does not foresee in the near future.

I went ahead and got a Lasermax red and am very satisfied with it.

I miss my Wicked brand green laser. I bought it for use in the office in Philly and it was stolen from my glove box when my car was being worked on. When I got back to Michigan a friend bought the same one and we had the dot bright as hell out at 200 yards during the day. Too bad they don't make weapon mounted lasers, though I have no idea how the one I had would stand up to recoil.

They do make lasers that can cut tape and light cigarettes for less than $100 though.

If I could find a set of 36mm rings I'd mount my WickedLasers Arctic G2 (1000mw blue).. I just want to be next to a guy popping holes in his paper while I set mine on fire without firing a shot

(sample of my Watt O' Blue Light: YouTube - Wicked Lasers Arctic.G2 burns through two floppy discs )

Actually most of the green lasers initially generate InfraRed light at a wavelength of 1064 nanometers and feed a frequency doubler crystal to cut the wavelength in half to 532nm (visible green). There's not much difference in battery life, but there are some efficiency losses in the crystals.
Green lasers seem to be brighter than red at similar power levels because the human eye is most sensitive to light in the 520nm - 570nm wavelength portion of the spectrum.
There are direct emission laser diodes in the green range, but they're still quite new and ridiculously expensive.

Can you tell I need to get out more?

(BTW: I light my cigars with a laser... sad, but true: YouTube - Wicked Lasers Arctic.G2 - Lighting a Cigar )

Here ya go Phil...

15 feet away.. kinda hard to hold it steady.
Burn through time: ~2-3 seconds
Holes enlarged themselves by edge burning... bonanza map style.
