Clamp the barrel in some soft jaws. Use a wrench to remove the flash hider. Hope you have a barrel nut wrench.

Be careful bro. The one got was almost welded on. I didn’t want to risk flexing the upper receiver since it’s a polymer and have it crack on me. I couldn’t find a vise block that would work. I ended taking it to a gun smith that had already made a jig for it. Cost me $20 but I didn’t break anything. Good luck!

Why do you need to remove the barrel to clean it? A bore snake does the inside and you can remove the disk at the front of the forend quite easily to get at the exterior of the barrel.

Yeah. You don't need to remove the barrel to clean it. The only reason you would have to remove the flash hider is if you wanted to put a shroud or silencer on it. There's no need for it really.

It could be that the op is talking about cleaning the outside of the barrel. When I got my 15-22 home, the outside of the barrel was soaked with gun oil from the factory thus the reason I took my barrel off and cleaned it.

I want to put on a compensator, so I am looking to solve this very problem. I need an aluminum barrel clamp to put in my vice.

Tacticool22 sells aluminum jaws on the web.

If you live close.... The shooting club I belong to in Hixon, Sportsman, has a gun shop. Rodney (he's the gunsmith) is pretty cool and would probably take it off for a couple bucks or maybe free.

I had my plain barrel threaded by a member here. Put a M16A1 suppressor on it and hand tightened it. Came loose after a couple hundred rounds. Barrel vice is vital to getting it on tightly, and back off. My M16 vice doesn't quite fit the M&P15-22 barrel and left aluminum marks on the barrel. Bronze brush and CLP removed them is a minute -- don't panic if you see silver marks!
