About my new 15-22...
Hi all, here are some more noob questions headed your way-
I just bought a 15-22 new from Gander Mtn. yesterday. It has a DTX serial number. I have looked at it and I see no blue springs on it. Does this mean I have one that will need to be sent back? What is the difference between 1st gen and later generations of this rifle? It might be a while before I can shoot it but does anyone think I should just send it back to S&W right off and let them do their magic on it? Thanks for your time and any advice is most welcome!

I wouldn't send it back to Smith unless you have a problem. Many of the 15-22's have functioned fine from day one. Others haven't and SW has taken care of them quickly. Again, don't put out the fire until you see the flames.

shoot it first if you have problems then either order the j&p spring kit and install or bend your factory hammer spring so that it weakens it and let it rock... smith tried to use ar fire control parts on these guns to start with.. if they had asked anyone who has ever owned an ar 22 convertion they would have told them that the hammer spring weight was way to much for the blow back power of a 22

Mine is DTX and with a little "tweaking" of the extractor it now performs flawlessly. This forum provided me with the information I needed on how to adjust the extractor. I not only had to adjust my extractor horizontally, I also had to adjust it up vertically so it was positioned between the lips of the magazine and the bolt without contacting either.

Justinsan, just let you know, thats the ejector you adjusted, not the extractor.
Extractor is located in the bolt.

this would be correct.. the extractor is the small clip in the bolt that holds the round to the bolt face while extracting thus the name... the ejector is the small metal blade that extends off the barrel that hits the rear of the casing knocking it off the bolt face and out of the reciever, thus the name ejector.... hope this helps

Mine is a DTX and it came with the old springs. I had nothing but issues with mine starting with the first mag. I tried everything I could, including but not limited to, adjusting the ejector, polishing the feedramp, loading the mags without the assist button, and using every type of ammo I could find. Finally after about 1000 rounds I accepted the fact that my rifle sucked. Off it went to S&W, only to return two weeks later running like a scalded dog. Now it shoots nearly any ammo, regardless of how I load the mag or how fast I dump the mag. The majority of people that don't have blue springs don't have any problems that can't be solved by using quality ammo. If your's has a bunch of FTE's S&W will take of you and get the gun running right.
Like some else said, clean it BEFORE you shoot it the first time and enjoy.

Thanks, Major Tom. It is good to know S&W will stand behind their products.

Couldn't have said it better. Same experience with my DTX.
