Yeah I can justify the price of the can, but it burns me having to spend 200 bucks on thin air...

I guess I'm one of those crazies! I just add the cost of the stamp to the can and look at it that way, as one investment. Plus if you have multiple hosts you can split the cost between guns and justify it that way. I bought a Tac-65 and spent right at $500 for the stamp and can. I have three host guns, $166 per gun. It's a little easier to swallow that way. What's going to be hard for me to justify is the $200 SBR stamp.
I'm holding off on posting pics till I get my can installed....

Believe me, I AM. I used to live in the communist state of IL, I'm very thankful that GA extends us the rights that it does.
That's also another reason to get one, I am exercising my RIGHT, one that a lot of people can't exercise.

Right. The only accessories I buy for my novelty 15-22 are those I absolutely need.

Suppresors are just fun! One suppresor can be used on multiple guns, my .22 suppresor goes on my 15-22, S&WM41, and Ruger 77/22.

If I ever buy a can, it'll be because I can use it on more than one gun. My next option after that would be a .45ACP.

Is this tax for just to have a sound suppressor or do you have to pay the tax for each one you get.

Each can or SBR needs it's own tax stamp.

$200 stamp for...
Suppressor
Short Barrel Rifle (SBR)
Short Barrel Shotgun (SBS)
Select Fire (roughly Pre-May 1986, already registered)
$5 for an Any Other Weapon (AOW), rather rarely encountered such as a shotgun that has a pistol grip and short barrel that has also NEVER had a stock installed. They can also NEVER have a shoulder stock installed. I would rather just pay the $200 and convert an old Rem 870 and have the option of whatever I wanted.
Here is a picture of an actual stamp...

A good read...

I sat and read this statement over several times and could not come up with just one response so I came up with several instead. In the spirit of the old choose-your-own-adventure books:
a. If you suspect the person is an alien working for the Federal government under orders from the BATFE turn to page 36.
b. If you see sweat pouring from their brow indicating that they are making such statement under duress from a spouse turn to page 14.
c. If you suspect that the person is from Berkley, CA and even see a "Graduate of University of California Berkley" turn to page 69.
d. If the person is smiling and reeks of alcohol turn to page 7.
e. If the person is slightly foaming at the mouth and is wearing an Obama 08 shirt dial 911 while trying to keep them calm until the ambulance shows up.

Something to consider.. a form 4 allows the transfer or purchase of a pre-exsisting sbr, sbs, suppressor, or a pre 1986 transferable machine gun...
But a form 1 will allow you to build your own sbr, sbs, or suppressor..
Both the form 1 and form 4 will require a 200 dollar tax and the form filled out twice and some photos of yourself and some finger print cards and the highest ranking officer in your areas sign. But other than that its just a waiting game of 3 to 6 months if your lucky

I sent in for 3 seperate tax stamps this year and every one was back in 8 weeks so they are getting better on the turn around time.
Screw the picture, finger print cards, and permission from the CLEO and set up a trust.

The transfer tax amount was set in 1934 when they started registering machine guns, suppressors, etc. and back then that was quite a deterrent to buying one. It hasn't gone up since it was instituted, when they figure that out it'll go sky high. Invest now while it's affordable.

very well said, thats why ive went alittle nuts on the forms lately... if id been older than 6 when the machine gun ban went in id be retiring right now... john bout a registered colt m16 in 1985. he gave roughly 2000 for it.. that was alot of money then and his wife said he had lost his mind... but now look at what ones worth in ment condition... moral of the story.. if you dont use your rights people tend to think you wont care or even mind if they take that right away... And me personally, i think if something doesnt change in the mid term elections you are going to see alot of your gun rights go bye bye.. people should really take the time and look at some of the famous quotes that our founding fathers made on guns and gun rights... does anyone else not find it strange that one of the few rights that are directly listed in the constitution is the one right they keep trying to remove from us... sorry for the rant.. but I do believe that everyone should use this right and enjoy it.. not everyone has the money to afford a machine gun but a can is something most can afford and it can be passed down threw your family...
why set a tax at 200 dollars in the great depression? .....
its a way to remove a right from the lower and middle class but retain it to those who can afford it
