Default Open Bolt

on my last shot the bolt doesnt stay open it seems like it did the first time but now its a no go. kinda sad, also had a few FTE's something like 1 every 30 or so, its seems to happen a few time on one mag then it wont happen for a few mags then again. more important is that the bolt doesnt stay open. any help would be great. thanks guys!

First, make sure the magazine is in place and locked. A gentle tug will not hurt anything. Then you probably should narrow the malfunction to one magazine. Keep track (grease penciled numbers, tape, etc.??) of which one is giving you the problems.

After you have a "suspect", don't use it and see if the others perform as they should. If they work well, try the "suspect" again-if it malfunctions, you've got your man.

If the offending magazine is really new, then I would contact S&W. If you've had it awhile then simply replace it. I don't know your ammo count, but magazines are a wear item and are not expected to last forever.

If you find that your rifle malfunctions with all magazines, then I would then contact S&W.

iv only got one mag as of now, thats what i think is strange 90% of the time the mag works great.
Isnt the gun bolt suppost to stay open after the last shot? Because mine isnt, could that be that mag too?

if the bolt is not staying open on he last shot, something is wrong, but

put a empty mag in the rifle pull the charge handel all the way back and see if it will stay open?

if not, pull the charge handel back again and push in on the lower bolt release button, does it stay open?

1 fte out of 30 is not bad but a simple adjustment of the ejector should fix that, there is a sticky at the top for this forum.

Push the rear take down pin to the right and open the gun up.. look at the mag release button with a mag in the lower... is the hold open lever all the way up or is the mag spring not pushing hard enough... check for grit in the slot that will cause 1 not to work... tell us what you see.. pics are nice to diagnose problems

so i think i figured it out, taking the upper off helped alot, thanks, the bad lever that i had installed on it wasnt allowing it to stay open. Adjusted the ejector so now i need to take it out and see how it works. Does the ejector need to touch the bolt or how far over should it be? Iv watched one of the videos and you couldnt quit tell how far over it should be, the full shells didnt seem to eject quite as far as before.
thanks again

If you'd mentioned adding a gimmick to the rifle a couple of days ago the answer would have been more obvious.

First break during tactical carbine courses folks are stripping all the gee-haws off their carbines. Most are back to stock by lunch! Re-rigging "single point slings" happens quickly after the first transition to pistol and move sequence!

KISS!
