Thumbs up Range report and 1st post

This post is gonna kill two birds with one stone. Range report and 1st post.
Took my new 15-22 to the range this afternoon and I believe it's a keeper.
Except for the Magpul MOE and the Vortex SPARC it's stock.
First the data:
Serial # DUL 04xx, blue spring, new style extractor and ejector, orange follower and the manual revision date is 3-22-10 without any stars.
I shot 300+ rounds and the only problems were jams every 3 or 4 rounds with Federal 750 bulk.
CCI HP, Blazer, WW HP, and Federal 510 all ran without any problems.
Best groups were with Blazer and CCI HP.
Nice thing about black rifles is they look good even dirty.
Here's the usual "new gun" pics. All targets are 25 rounds.

Hey Snuff, welcome to the forum!

I've had my M&P 15-22 for a few weeks and have added the Magpul MBUS flip-up sights and also a Leupold 2.5X ultra light scope in a NCStar MARCQ cantilever mount and the dang rifle shoots one ragged hole groups with the scope on it at 25 yards with CCI Stinger or CCI Mini Mag ammunition.

I am a squirrel hunter and this set-up seems about perfect for my needs, but I do want to add a red dot set-up because I have never owned or even shot with a red dot before. So last night I ordered a Vortex Strike Fire and another NCStar MARCQ mount. My question is all the Vortex red dots have a 4 MOA dot, from your experience approximately how much area does that dot cover at 25 yards?

Best of luck with your new rifle.

The Vortex I have , the SPARC, has a 2 MOA dot. It should cover .5" at 25 yds but to my old eyes it seems to be slightly more. It's definitely smaller than the 4 MOA Burris Fastfire I have mounted on a Ruger MKII

Thank you for the quick reply Snuff and excellent information.

I apologise for being so misinformed on the Vortex SPARC red dot sight. I went back and read the fact sheet for the Strike Fire and all Strike Fires have the 4 MOA dot.

Nothing quite so embarrassing as having to eat your shoe on the WWW...

No reason to be embarrassed.
I looked through both the Strike Fire and a SPARC at a LGS and I could easily see the difference in dot size.
The smaller package and dot size is why I went with the SPARC.

OK, boys, yuck it up, won't you? About 82,000 comedians out of work and there are a couple right here on the S&W forum.

Hey Larry, my name is Larry to, not that, that's important.

Anyway, I had to eat my left shoe earlier today so I might just as well go ahead and eat the right one to. I didn't mean any disrespect by my BoTach statement, but honestly there are much better places on the Internet to purchase parts and accessories. Midway USA, Brownells, Primary Arms, and RRages are a few of my favorites. All have decent prices, excellent customer service, and fast shipping.

I'm pretty sure the other Larry will be okay as long as he retains the title of "Botach Moron Of The Month". It's a badge of honor around here.

I think I'll order a "Moron of the Month" t-shirt from Botach.

Obligatory thread content: I passed 7,000 rounds on my 15-22 yesterday. No problems at all w/ it.

The new Lake City Range operated by the State of Missouri opened yesterday:

Lake City Shooting Range & Outdoor Education Center

It's pretty neat: covered shooting positions and concrete floor. No mud or gravel except in the parking lot.

500 rounds of .22 and 100 rounds of 5.56 at the new range confirm that the various ranges are not the problem w/ my shooting.
