what do you prefer angled or vertical? after reading the whole story behind the creation of the angled it sounds advantageous, but it could also just be the story they use to sell these things, what do you guys like and why?
I've tried both and I'd have to say it's really all a matter of preference.
I found that shooting "from the hip", the vertical fore grip seemed a little more comfortable to me, however when shouldering the rifle, the AFG felt far more "natural". Since I generally like to aim at what I'm shooting, the AFG is the default configuration for me. YMMV.
I prefer a vert. grip. I actually hold the mag. I like my front hand close to me. This comes from a paintball back round. It helps me shoot quicker around the air bunkers and such. The paintball industry came out about 7 years ago and started doing neg. angled foregrips on the tourny guns and I got to shoot one and fell in love with them. They had forward angled for years. The closer my hands are the more control I feel for practicle shooting style. If I am going for accuracy then I spread my hands apart for stability. I'm looking into getting the EMA mag well vert. grip.
I like a vert grip. It feels more comfortable to me and I get on target faster than with the Magpul AFG. I timed myself using both. I like the vert gip on the 15-22 because I can get the top of my hand up against the bottom while hooking my thumb onto the rail to clamp down, while pulling back tight into my shoulder pocket with my fingers. If anyone knows a way to link photobucket photos in a smaller way please PM me how because I know my pics I post are way too big. Unless you like seeing my hairy arms all close and personal .
I use a similar grip to Scuds, I just have my vertical grip almost at the end and have 2 fingers on the rails, 2 fingers on the grip and the thumb wrapped high or tucked forward between the top and side rails. The AFG works more naturally for my grip style, but the vertical grip is more versatile and compact.
The VFG also allows you to rest the front of the gun on a bench or course cover without setting it on your hand. Plus you can go behind the VFG with a cupped hold for a more traditional target stance.
We have the VFG on both of ours just fits right and I tend to grip
like the photo above. The wifes gun she loves that when not
holding at at the magwell.
I run a Troy VG on my .223 also. I have never tired the other
but many do like it. Try one if not buy another
I agree. Know for some ppl it just sounds like $$$ out the door but you really do need to try them to see what you like. I have tried both. I don't like the VFG at all. I grew up shooting old school rifles so that just feels weird. I love the AFG. Feels good to me but still gives you the same point every time for your hand. Works great for me.
