difference between picatinny and weaver rails
Can someone explain the difference between picatinny and weaver mounting rails? I want to get a scope in 3-9x50 range. Probably a Barska as the one on my 10/22 works nice. I am confused on the mounting rings. I know I should buy picatinny rings but a lot of the rings are more than a scope..

The weaver-style rings work fine on picatinny rails. The width of the slots is a little wider on picatinny rails, so weaver rings will fit on picatinny rails where picatinny rings wouldn't necessarily fit on weaver bases.

... and the new NATO STANAG 4694 rail is different still from the MIL-STD-1913 (Picatinny) rail (STANAG 2324).
