Pick mine up tomorrow!
Hi guys, forum noob here. I was varsity co-captain of the .22LR riflery team in high school but stopped shooting in college and several years after.
Earlier this year I paid off most of my debt and bought a SA-XDM9 handgun . Thanks to a bonus I just got, I'm heading to GAT Guns in the Chicago burbs to pick up my M&P15-22 tomorrow.
No thanks to you guys, I already have a long list of accessories that I want!

Thats a great sidearm, as I own the XD 9 myself, and its never had the first issue. Bought it new in the box, and my only regret is that I didnt buy one sooner.
Any way congrats on the 15 22 purchase. Hopefully you will get one of the newer serial number models.( DUA-DUU) Not saying that all of the DTH - DTZ serials are all "bad" but this far along youd think the DT serial would be almost all sold by now.
And there are forum members here that have never had the first issue with their DT serial # rifles. For example im pretty sure that Beltfed ( you will get to know of him REAL fast for his AWESOME work) has a DT series and has over 20k through his rifle, and no errors. I think I read he used the JP replacement springs as soon as he got his though. Any way congrats again.
As far as the accessories go, I have EASILY added over $250-300+ in Magpul XTM rail covers, Magpul MOE stock, ladders, scopes, scope riser, cheek piece riser, vertical foregrip, bipod, green laser, picatinny sling adapter, sling, flashlights, etc etc. And there are plenty of users here that would LOL at my total prices, if thats all they had to spend untill they got their rifle to where they were satisfied with it. So ya its long, BUT happy road to travel! I think this gun is laced with some form of drug, as once you get your hands on one for a while, your hooked! And I got to admit that a gun store named GAT is kinda funny lol.

Welcome to the forum. You'll love the 15-22. Bought my second one a few months ago. Most fun I've ever had shooting a .22 rifle.

I looked at my layaway receipt and the s/n is DTZ***. Maybe it made the update cutoff, maybe not... will see soon, though I probably won't get to the range until Friday or Saturday to test it out.
GAT stands for Guns, Archery and Tackle, though i'd say 80% of the store is dedicated to guns (not including the 24 lane indoor range). Also, they said that when I pick it up I can get 10% off all accessories and ammo.
I also live 10 min from the only Cabela's around so I've got some good options.

filbert, be sure to clean it well before shooting per the instructions in the manual. Hopefully, you have the blue springs. If not, you may want to get the JP 3.5 spring kit (yellow springs - about $10) and put them in before you shoot it. My DTX shot well with everything left stock and the forum poll showed that about 66% of the DT rifles didn't have problems. So, don't assume you will have a problem. I put the JP springs in after the first shooting session and they made a major improvement in the trigger - and I've not had any problems since they've been in.

+1 on the JP 3.5 (yellow) trigger springs... hard to spend a better 10 bucks on your 15-22!
Enjoy, enjoy enjoy! (and welcome to the family)

If you are REALLY concerned, why not just have them to give you a different rifle that has a more current serial number.( DUA-DUU) As so far, all you have done is to put a layaway amount down. Since you are still paying full price, I dont see why it would be a big deal to get a different one. It cant hurt to ask to see if this can be done. You never know, they may just let you get a different one. As im sure they dont want to loose a sale, if they think its THAT big of a deal to you. Wheter it is or not lol.

I checked and it has the blue springs and the newer magazine so I went ahead and took it home and gave it a good cleaning (man that barrel was dirty).
I also got a $20 coupon in the mail for Cabela's so I'm going to try to get out of work a little early, stock pile some ammo and hit the range tomorrow.
A couple noob questions... I did a search but didn't turn up a quick answer.
[first question answered after more searching]
When re-assembling after field stripping (i.e. reattaching the upper to the lower), should the gun still be cocked with safety on or decocked? If it's decocked, it seems the hammer rubs up against the firing pin. Is that ok? Seems like it might cause extra wear?

Read the caution at the top of the 15-22 forum about the safety - don't force it.
There are threads on whether to leave the 15-22 cocked or decocked after cleaning. When decocking, hold onto the hammer and ease it forward, don't let it slam forward when the upper and lower are separated. I personally hang onto the hammer, pull the trigger and let the hammer down easy with the safety in the fire position. Then I just push the upper and lower together. Not to worry about any extra wear. Others just close it and leave it cocked and on safe. The way I read the discussion on the other thread, either way is OK.

Yeah, I saw that. Thanks for your help.
I put 200+ rounds through today and had one FTE after about 25 rounds with WWB 525, but nothing else after that with a mix of WWB 525 and Federal 525.
