Default Help with bad jamming (and damaging magazines)

I have been having an issue with the 25 round, red lip magazine. I have one red and one blue "10 round" magazine, and this only happens with the 25 round magazine. Rifle is the older model serial DTZ.

Here you can see the bullet rim has actually dug into the magazine and is very hard to get out (not to mention it left grooves in the magazine).

Here is a picture of the magazines, blue works perfectly, red will jam just about once a magazine.

Tough to see but here is the damage a few jams have done to the magazine

The magazines are loaded one bullet at a time, and making sure each bullet is back enough, and is fully angled up (at a 3 degree angle or so). Is this a known issue? Should I complain to Smith and Wesson? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yep if you are loading the mags correctly (I have shot videos on this: M&P 15-22 Instructional Video Series ) then you may need to call up S&W and see what they will do for you.

You bet I watched them! Heck, I watched them a few times a few weeks before even getting the rifle!

Thanks for doing them by the way, they are easy to understand, and you did a great job with lighting, audio and such.

Mine does this if i let people who arent really fimilar with loading the mag do it. it just happens every now and then. I have also noticed that after i get a mag loaded, if you pull the follower down what little i can, and the let it go to "shock" the rounds. if i have noticed any that arent in the criss cross pattern, the brief shock aligns them all into the cross and it feeds fine.

Yup, that is what I do with just about every magazine, because when I load the rounds they will some times point either horizontal, or slightly down. They will almost kind of stick horizontal or down, and I have to bring down the ALAB and bring it up fast a few times to fully get the cartridge angled up, despite a good oiling of the magazines.

I'm not sure if I showed this in the videos or not but I got in the habit of smacking the back of the mag off the palm of my hand to ensure all the rounds are seated all the way against the back wall of the mag. I do this with my other firearms as well, because I find more times than not, the rounds aren't all the way back in the mag.

Thanks for the kudo's on the videos I am glad they were helpful! I'd say since you are still having issues I'd call S&W up and see if you can get the mag's replaced. Not sure what version you have, but the newer revision mags say "22LR 25 Rounds"

After getting no reply to my email to customer service I called them and they caved and sent me a new magazine. I described the magazine lookin odd and the guy on the other end sort of sighed and probably thought "screw this, it's 3:50 I am almost done for the day" and told me he would ship me a new magazine.

After watching the AGI AR 15 gunsmithing video I am thinking that the magazine spring might need some adjustment. Not sure, but I'll definately be doing some tinkering with the magazine.
