Default barrel threading for suppressor

I have the plain barrel model and have some questions about getting the end of the barrel threaded for a suppressor.

1. Does anyone know a place or someone who has experience
at doing this that I can send my barrel to?

2. I don't have the tools to remove my barrel, can I send the
whole upper minus the bolt without using a licensed firearm
dealer or does that violate the law

3. Does Smith & Wesson sell threaded barrels? and If so does
anyone know how much they cost?

4. Can I send my upper to Smith & Wesson and have them
put on a threaded version

5. If I were to buy the tools to remove the barrel how much
would I be looking to pay?

6. Does anyone have any other ideas on the best way for me
to get my barrel threaded using the least expensive method

See the 1522 Classifieds at the top. Belt_Fed has threaded several barrels for Forum members. He does great work and will take care of everything.

1. Does anyone know a place or someone who has experience
at doing this that I can send my barrel to? BELT_FED or go back to the shop you bought your rifle from and ask them about a gunsmith they trust.

2. I don't have the tools to remove my barrel, can I send the
whole upper minus the bolt without using a licensed firearm
dealer or does that violate the law? Get the wrench. You won't regret it.

3. Does Smith & Wesson sell threaded barrels? and If so does
anyone know how much they cost? S&W sells the threaded barrel with a rifle attached. As far as I know they are not selling ANY individual items yet.

4. Can I send my upper to Smith & Wesson and have them
put on a threaded version? Doubtful, but you could call.

5. If I were to buy the tools to remove the barrel how much
would I be looking to pay? Around the $30.00 range

6. Does anyone have any other ideas on the best way for me
to get my barrel threaded using the least expensive method? You could always put the adapter on. Least expensive, fastest and you can do it yourself. 1-800-331-0852 (USA) Mon-Fri 8:00AM-8:00PM Eastern Time

I think someone asked S&W if they could thread the barrel while the gun was back for service and the price was nearly $200 (I want to say 170, but I can't recall).

You can ship the upper and handguard still attached since only the lower is considered a firearm, but you'll be spending more on shipping and trusting whoever you send it to has enough brains to not ruin the barrel nut or strip the receiver (unless you send it to Belt_Fed or someone like that). So a $20 wrench is probably a good investment if you're using someone local.

Send Belt-fed the upper & you are done. He will take care of the rest. He did a great job threading my barrel & his price is great. Now I need him to thread the barrel of my PTR-91 but then that will make me buy some noise reducing add ons!!

Great advice here. Also, if you do decide to buy a barrel nut tool and remove the barrel yourself, I'm told that Brett, our resident video specialist, is working on a video to do just that. Keep us posted on your rifle mods, pictures are always appreciated !!! Shoo

I've been threading barrels, most with receiver attached, for local gun dealer (Gundealeronline.com) here in Lancaster, PA for quite sometime now. Most of the barrels are attached to AR platform style receivers. I'm a Tool & Die trades person who has decided to open my own gunsmithing shop. I'm very meticulous in my work at the right price.

I don't remember but if BeltFed is in North Carolina he threaded my plain barrel a year or so ago. I sent the entire upper. Excellent craftsmenship and I think the turnaround was no more than a day or two.

An old M16A1 flash suppressor screwed right on. M16A2 compensator (on M16A2) -- no bottom slots -- on top, M16A1 flash suppressor (on M&P15-22) on the bottom.
