Help- Should I send it back??
Hello all, this is my first post on this site. Thanks to you all I ordered a 15-22 MOE from Buds a few weeks back. I was somewhat concerned about the FTE problem on the older models. When I opened the box I was relieved to see that the serial number was DUU-1081 and it had the blue springs. Took it out the the range (back yard) yesterday with federal bulk and I had a FTE every 3 rounds. I tried blazer with a FTE every 15 rounds or so. Remington was terrible ( I knew that going into it with only 10 rounds). The federal automatch worked better with only a few FTE's out of 50 or so and I had one or 2 FTE's out of 50 or so cci minimags.
From what I've read on this site about different types of ammo it seems like I am experiecing a higher than normal FTE problem. Should I send it back or just stick with the auto match and minimags and and except FTE's every 50 or 75 rounds. Maybe I'm asking too much from a .22???
Thanks much everyone.

still a noob also...
I picked up an MP 15-22 last week at the range....the guy that sold it to me told me to use the CCI mini mags..so i bought them and headed to the range...put 200 thru with just 1 FTF...he told me that the 15-22 doesnt like remington etc...
Im gonna say he steered me right so CCI mini mags will be my AOC (ammo of choice)

I just came back from the range after firirg 175 rounds of fed. bulk from walmart with out any problems there is a post on the 15 22 section of this forum that will show you how to adjust the ejector .My gun is one of the first models and it works just fine and is one of the most fun guns I have and I am sure once you adjust the ejector on yours it will be your favorite gun also.

I just got a DUU S/N rifle a couple of weeks ago. It would FTE every two rounds or so when using the Federal 550 from WalMart. I tweaked the ejector a little bit. The next range trip on the same ammo I had one FTE through 300 rounds. I recommend watching the ejector tweak video and seeing if you are comfortable trying that. It only takes a tiny adjustment to see improvements and it could save you the turn around time. If you are not comfortable tweaking it then send it to S&W and they will take care of it.

After a few thousand rounds, and good cleaning with Gunzilla, I can shoot anything, including the GB bulk. No problems with anything except some failure to fire (typical .22 bad primer) but that's it. Even last round hold open stopped having problems.

You should check your ejector and make sure it doesn't wiggle. I had to send my rifle back to S&W last week for this problem, and so did another guy on these forums. It would stovepipe on Federal 550 bulk every 2-3 rounds.

If you dont feel comfortable doing the tweak to the extractor send it back. Way too many problems for that kind of ammo. I almost have a 1000 thru mine and ive only had ftfs and ftes with rem gb pack and maybe 2 fte with federal. Good luck and keep us informed

I got mine a few weeks back (also DUU blue springs). So far I've put 200 rounds of CCI, 550 rounds of federal bulk, and about 475 rounds of Federal auto match. So far I've only had 1 FTE and that was with the fed. bulk. I'd say check the extractor for wiggle and if so send it back. Let smith deal with it.

The extractor is on the bolt and the ejector is down by the magazine.
The ejector is the piece down by the top of the magazine that is held into the breechblock and is what flips the shell out of the face of the bolt.
The extractor holds onto the rim of the cartridge to pull it out of the chamber and holds it in the bolt for ejection when the cartridge hits the ejector.

I dropped off my 15-22 today at Smith and Wesson (I live close enough to it in MA). Mine has a ser# DUU* and had the blue spring.
I purchased it earlier this month. The first 400 rounds over a period of three weeks were flawless, the past weekend the 100 or so rounds I went through I had FTEs approximately every 20 rounds. I've read about others that have had put thousands of rounds through and have their 15-22 function perfectly.
When cleaning later, I noticed my ejector did wiggle, where I do not believe it did prior. Not taking any chances as I had also read prior stories of the ejector completely blowing out I wanted to have it serviced right away. My thought was the ejector was solid at first, then worked itself loose, and may have eventually worked so loose I could have had a "not-so-good" event.
I will say this, when I contacted S&W about my concern, the response from customer service was exemplary.
From reading, it also seems that most anyone who has had the need to send in their 15-22 for service, it came back 100% reliable. I hope they continue that trend with me.
