Default bayonet?

Sorry if this has been covered; my search revealed nothing. Is it possible (read: easy) to put this on my 15-22?

Amazon.com: Smith & Wesson SW3B Special Ops M-9 Bayonet Special Force Knife, Black: Home Improvement

An impossibility without major mods? It would look so sweet. The 2nd photo is sexy.

Easy no... Could it be done? Yes!

You would need to convert to an M4 style carbine front end with an A2 sight post that has a bayonet lug. You would need to purchase a 15-22 Barrel Nut Adapter and a Bayonet barrel adapter from Tacticool22 and then you would need to purchase a complete Delta Ring Assembly (Delta Ring and Barrel Nut), an M4 hand guard end cap, a pair of carbine M4 hand guards, a front A2 Sight Post and then you would need to have shims machined because AR M4 profile barrels are .750 in diameter and our barrel is .670 and then you would need to figure out a way to secure the Sight Post to the barrel, AR's pin the sight posts on with straight or taper pins and the bottom of the barrel has half holes machined across the barrel.

So yep it's completely doable!

The picture you're talking about on Amazon is also incorrect. Guns with 16" barrels and a carbine gas system cannot properly mount a bayonet, I think you need a 14.5" barrel with flash hider so the ring on the bayonet is around the flash hider snugly when the pommel locks into the lug on the sight. Real M4s are not 16" barrels.

Otherwise the bayonet's ring is around a smaller diameter and can rattle, mark up your barrel, and won't be as secure.

Real M16A2 on top with real bayonet. Real M4 barrel is the same length in front of the front sight, 16" carbine barrels stick out farther. Note the M4 barrel is not 14.5" because of any magic or ballistic testing, it's 14.5" merely so the standard bayonet can be used. The original M4 design was specific design for a foreign military who wanted the bayonet (vs the M177-series which won't take a bayonet) and Colt later sold the idea intact to the Army.

No bayonet lug on the M&P15-22 on the bottom, but you might be able to fit one. A reason do do so remains a mystery.

Chuck,

Just like the reason to do so on your "real" M16A2 remains a mystery. Do you run around with your Bayonet on and pig stick burlap sacks as part of your run and gun training?

If you were in theater I guess that's a whole different story!

It all comes down to Mancessorising!

BTW, that IS a real M16A2...

Bayonet was affixed for the photo to show the barrel length of the M&P15-22. M&P15-22 handguards are approximately "mid length."

Chuck,

Okay so you don't run around the house with the Bayonet on? Good!

Here are a couple pics of a real 16 inch barrel M&P15 with a standard bayonet, over the bayonet barrel adapter. One pic is the standard A2 flash hider and the other is a muzzle brake.
The third pic is another adapter. It works, but....
corpulent, in the link you gave, they have a picture of the bayonet on a 16" barrel showing the muzzle ring well below the flash hider. Truth in advertising there. Ya just gotta look.

Well, yeah, I did want it just for show. I can't imagine actually using the bayonet, unless the impending zombie apocalypse comes sooner than expected...

So I s'pose I don't need the legit/proper/historically accurate/big $$$ bayonet attachment. A slight upgrade over electrical tape holding a steak knife to the barrel would be nice. I'm wondering if there is some type of "double ring clamp thingee" that would firmly attach a round handled knife to the barrel. Something like double scope rings (or an expansion of the adapter tacticool posted) would match the overall vibe. Sure, it wouldn't be easily removable, but it would be on there.

So. . .I guess that riflenade and flamethrower attachment won't work either?

There is nothing wrong with wanting a bayonet for any reason or no reason. Part of the attraction the M-1 Garand and any weapon with a military foundational provenance is the historical significance and I like to have a bayonets for them.
I read they quit training bayonet in the Army and I think that is too bad. It was fun and somehow it started you thinking there could be a link between yourself and the "real" soldiers, dads, uncles, grandpas, not just kids like us. I guess the modern equipment and such , means they have no time for such an obsolete weapon.
Even back then we knew that for us to be fixing bayonets , so many things had to go wrong in a row that it was going to be a very bad day.

Actually I do fix bayonet and run around the house doing the short thrust, hold, withdraw. long thrust ,Vertical butt stroke, slash, horizontal butt stroke, jab, slash. The grand kids think it is funnier that "Drunken Master kung fu disaster"..

How 'bout this one? 7.62mm NATO from a 14.5" barrel needs a good flash suppressor! Another rifle I built, kept a year, and sold. This is a DPMS.

I am ordering my M1 bayonet today, CMP has some goodies in. I also have the bayo for my mosin nagant, we do afix it and stab targets after shooting the **** out of them. Some is very satisfiying about stabbing your old targets to finish them off with it. granted our targets are usually interactive things, such as toilet seats and signs and clay pigeons etc etc

A bayonet on the end of your long arm may be handy when repelling human wave attacks by Chicoms and NKPA, or taking a position when your ammo is low. The bayonet on the end of a rifle can even be effective when robbing a 7-11.

Trust me in this, a bayoneted rifle is entirely useless as an anti-zombie tool. Against zombies you are much better off with extra ammo and no bayonet on your rifle.

I would never be caught dead or alive running around the house with a bayonet on one of my ARs. That would be nothing short of crazy at the very least.

I mean....geeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzz.......what would be the purpose for doing it?

On the other hand.....having one on my 12 gauge is a whole different thing.

Bayos......don't leave home without them!
