Talking Home-made Load Assist Button - Works Great

So I was feeling jealous of all the lucky boys and girls who have the 25rd Load Assisted mags after playing around with my short 10rd one, and so I thought I'd even the field a little--about 15rds less than even though Thank you retard Hippies.

Lol anyway, I got some Aluminum Screw Posts from OSH and set about installing them in my mags. I tried a 1/2" and a 5/8" and found that the 1/2" is too short to screw all the way in and while the 5/8" can move around it doesn't stick out past the outer dimension line of the magazine's side. You just need to file down the OD of the post to fit in the hole and I also roughed up the flat back end to give my fingers a more secure grip on the button. Then I used some blue loctite just in case I wanted to remove them.

I've shot somewhere between 200 and 300 rounds out of each modified mag and NO PROBLEM!! They don't rattle while shooting and don't catch or snag on anything. And they of course make loading way faster/easier. Also, I didn't get any FTF's or anything after installing and using them--but I do pull down on the follower and shake the mag to help stagger the rounds though.

Hope this helps someone; happy shooting.

Simon

Great job there Sen. I've been thinking about a solution for my 10 rounders as well.

Did I see someone post that they called up S&W, asked for replacement LABs, and they just shipped them a few for free?

Yes, that was me. You need to know that the S&W LAB's WILL NOT fit into the 10 round mags directly because the follower will not go down to the bottom of the mag. This is due to the pin that restricts your mag capacity. I resolved that issue and then installed my free LAB's.

John
Is this because the LAB has to be inserted through the hole opening at the bottom of the mag? Forgive my ignorance, but I've never seen a disassembled LAB before.

Is there a way I would be able to get one installed without unpinning my mag? (NY here) Or would I essentially have to remove the pin and then reinstall it?

Thanks UpstateNY, I asked S&W and their official word is it's not possible to install on the 10 rounders because of what John listed; follower doesn't go down far enough. I was thinking about just removing the spring then using a dremel and making an opening higher up on the track and then putting in a LAB through the new hole but then the opening would be just a few mm lower than where the fully loaded mag follower would sit and it could potentially fall out while loading if you aren't careful--you could use epoxy to close the opening back up after the install. That or just doing as john16443 did and just unpinning the mag like god, or at least S&W, intended... Or splitting the mag along the seam and supergluing it back together with the LAB installed. In the end I just KISSed it--Keep It Simple Stupid--ah getting yelled at by old car guys...
