Looking for a positive here, both kids love playing call of duty and have become very versed on the guns in the game and are amazed that they are based on real guns.
So they are now very interested in shooting and I couldn't be happier. My dad took me shooting when I was young and my kids weren't very interested until being hooked on the COD games.
So, for xmas, I think I will surprise them with the 15-22. Downside is I have to buy a MA compliant gun which does not have the adjusting but stock, so I am a bit worried it will not fit my 9 year old.
Anyone with a MA compliant 15-22 or M&P find it difficult for smaller kits to mount?

That's awesome your kids are gettin into shooting! My son and his cousin LOVE Call of Duty games! It has also helped his love of the sport of shooting grow too. Shooting and hunting have been family favorites for generations here.
As for sizing him up for it, I'm wondering if maybe while out shopping, say at a sporting goods store, ask to look at one (after discreetly telling the employee what is up so he understands why you're handing it to a nine year old), and let him hold it. It will probably be just a tad long unfortunately.
When my son started shooting, he was pretty small, so even a 22lr was too long for him. When he was that size, he'd actually have to let the end of the stock go under his armpit. It made it somewhat tough to look down the sights, but he did just fine and by the time he was 13, he'd shot everything we got, 12ga, 300 savage, .38 special..etc. He loves shooting with his cousin and rest of the family...good times.
