Default Anyone use Remington 22 Thunderbolt high velocity ammo?

My dad brought me a box of 500 rimfire rounds but the manual lists this kind as a 'do not recommend' using. Id love to know they are ok so I dont spend more money at the range tomorrow, but its not life or death obviously.

Thanks.

go ahead and try them. they shouldn't make your gun explode.. most ammos make the bad-list because they often jam, don't fire, etc. if you start having problems throw em away. some people have been ok with remington ammo though.

I've used it without any issues. It ran no better nor worse than any of the other lower cost ammo I've tried.

My owner's manual does not have a list of ammo....so I don't have to follow it. If S&W wanted me to have such a list, they would have included it in the box when they shipped my rifle back from warranty work.

From all the reports I have heard, the lead is either very soft with the Thunderbolts, thus leading the barrel very quickly, or the coating on them causes the problem. Either way, the reports are that accuracy suffers after very few rounds down the pipe, and it takes a lot more work to get the bore clean afterwards. I personally have had more misfires with Thunderbolts than other brands.

I have a couple of bulk packs on hand, but will not shoot them unless I have to. I bought them before the word came out on them. They cost a lot less for a reason. Oddly enough, I have had very good luck with other Remington rimfire ammo. The Remington "Golden Bullets" (plated HPs) are very accurate in my .22 rifles.

In my previous bolt action rifle one Remington Thunderbolt ammo broke down my suppressor. It came out side ahead and was a large hole in end plate. Very bad ammo.

^This. I've gotten some low end ammo as a gift/accidentally/hand-me-down, and it only finds use in a revolver. Too dirty and unreliable to go in anything semi-auto.

Imho this ammo is TERRIBLE. in fanct I believe all Remington rimfire is but this particularly kills me. More expensive than the Golden Bullet sheeit they first sold me, which was a waste of $25 dollars. This stuff did not barely fire ONE OR TWO shots out of my Rem 597, so bad I basically had to stow the 597. my bolt action Savage Mark II which is about as sniperish as you can get, barely could get this junk on paper, and afte loading a mag for my 15-22, I couldnt even pull the trigger, literally, too risky.

JUNK Imho.

All I buy is cheap Wal-Mart special ammo. Fires just fine in my 10-22. As for cleaning being harder with them, I can't say if that's true. I spend the same amount of time cleaning regardless of the ammo.
