I haven't checked in for some time and didn't want to hijack Phil's thread, so here's a new post. I've been thinking about suppressing my 15-22 for some time and got pushed over the edge with the release of the new Silencerco stainless steel 22Sparrow. I ordered one today from Major-Malfunction and can't wait for it to arrive (2-3 weeks). I also got one of the first ones off the line (low SN) - FWIW. I'm setting up an NFA Trust using a VA lawyer and might just SBR my 15-22 at the same time to save one Tax Stamp fee. Let's hope the ATF processes the paperwork quickly!

Nice.... I have read good things about the Sparrow.

I think you're really going to like shooting suppressed.

You have to pay the tax on the can and SBR. No buy one get one free.

I've read so much about suppressors my eyes are bleeding. I've seen several charts showing most cans (with the exception of the first round pop) are within 2-3dbs of each other, so you can't go wrong with almost any choice. I liked the specs of the new Sparrow and that it's SS (so cleaning should be easier). And yes, I think the fun of shooting suppressed might just cause me to waste even more money for one of the 15-22's "brothers."

Sweet - I got rid of my Sig though. I was thinking of a .308 or .556 can. I'll wait and see how the Sparrow works out.

You people that live in suppressor-legal states make me very sad that Michigan doesn't allow them.

My wallet on the other hand is very happy. The price of a tax stamp and suppressor is a big chunk of change.

Ditto! I'd spend my next grand on another rifle instead of a supressor and stamp, me thinks. even though it is really sweet.

Forgive my stupidity, but what is the purpose of a can? I suppose it would allow a person to shoot in areas that don't allow it without alerting the law. That would be cool if it cost $100 or so total. What am i missing?

If it's illegal to shoot wherever you are using a suppressor to hide your actions is very wrong.

Some people like them if they're shooting on their own land with neighbors or roads nearby so they can shoot without disturbing others as much.

Hunters rarely use ear protection, so hunting with a suppressor is safer for your hearing. Likewise, shooting for extended periods of time even with hearing protection can damage your ears. Using suppressors can help reduce harmful noise, and in some setups eliminate the need for hearing protection.

Shooting without hearing protection is much more comfortable.

It is much easier to get a good cheek weld without hearing protection interfering with the stock.

Doesn't bother the neighbors.

The most important reason to get a suppressor is that it's just crazy fun.

And just so the rest of you know you can build your own on a form 1 rather than spending 1000 bucks on a factory built can

One other thing everyone needs to know, don't get hung up on the db rating of a suppressor simply because very few people have a 5000 dollar db meter capible of metering a gun shot and changing the host gun in the same caliber can make a 3-5 db change.
