Default Cleaning break free?

I always use breakfree on the bolt and small parts of my ar15 and in works great. My question is it safe to use on the m&p 15-22 and a ruger charger. I kno this isnt a ruger forum but maybe somebody knows that as well. Thank U

Break Free CLP is the only thing I use on all the parts of my long guns and pistols. Even use it to clean the bores of my revolvers. Been using it for years, great product.

i use brake cleaner to clean a lot. but i try to keep it away from plastic and wood.

some plastics do ok, some dissolve.

too much plastic on the M&P to even chance it.

forgot to add. although i use it on my 10/22. i have already stripped the finish off it. i have read the new crinkle finish isn't very durable.

I use thin oil for cleaning, like wd40 or crc5-56. For lubricating and preserving I use car motor oil , Mobil Rally Formula 5w50. As a fully synthetic oil it works great even in -27C temperatures( this I have tested) in my ar-15 and MP15-22, too. And in hot weathers like 30C it still looks oil after day in range . It don't evaporate.....as CLP and some 'gun oils' does.
Course motor oil comes 'black' in ar-15 bolt and carrier, but it only means that oil collects dirty off from mechanism and there is not any carded.
Sorry about this C-mark ( Celsius). I don't have any understanding about 'F'. All free world exept english spoken countries use C, m, L and G, which are internationally agreed measures, even by US. But still we here in Europe have troubles to find tools and bolts for 'inch'-seizes.

Use Mpro 7 gun cleaner and Mpro 7 CLP. You won't regret it, a little pricey but you don't have to worry about it tearing up your MP15-22 or any other gun you own. You can even use it in the house. No problem.

Wait...there are cleaning products other than Break-Free CLP? Surely you jest!

It's all I use too.

Hoppes has that strong smell that they even have an air freshener of.
I use Gunzilla only. No/low smell and it does not evaporate. The lubrication is the best and it does not collect dust and grime like wet oils will. That grit will wear your rifle the same as if you took sand paper to it.

Just a quick FYI, WD-40 is a water based product so be careful useing on firearms. Good Product but I would not use it on my firearms. Just an FYI, I learned the hard way

Are you sure it is water? I thought it was mostly kerosene. It does absorb water though pretty well so left out in a can or something it could pick up quite a lot.

WD is petrolium based. The WD stands for Water Displacement perfected on the 40th try.
WD-40 Company and Product History
If you have any doubts about what to use on your polymer firearms, use Gunzilla.

Maybe it's time for a sticky at the top of this page for "Never Ending Pointless Recurring Threads" That would be the place to discuss items like what cleaner, lube/oil, ammo, cleaning frequency, scope, red dot, ad naseum is best and why you shouldn't use anything else. A place where repeating topics are discussed and never resolved.

Works well on other forums, refer the OP to the sticky and lock the thread.

"Breakfree" is a brand name and should not be considered a synonym for CLP. They make/market lots of stuff.

Breakfree (brand) CLP hasn't been used by the military is probably 25 years so I don't know what's in it or how well it works.

Military CLP, the gold standard, is a performance specification, not a chemical formula.

CLP is safe for all firearms not made with paper mache. CLP lubrication and protection is cumulative. If you strip it out with solvents (or brake cleaner ) you start from scratch and defeat one of the benefits.

Brake cleaner is probably best restricted to degreasing encrusted military surplus C&R weapons. Certainly not needed on a routine basis. And since there's no specification it may be brutal on plastic.

Nearly every thread on this forum (or any forum, for that matter) is repetitive in some form. The forum would die from lack of posts if everyone "searched" first and asked questions later. Besides, it's when people ask questions that they can get answers from all of you internet geniuses/gun gurus; thereby solving two problems: The question gets answered, and others get to show off their knowledge or complain about having already shown off their knowledge in existing threads.

Default Anybody ever used the Lucas Gun Cleaner?

I know its pretty good for vehicle lubrication. Lucas now makes a gun oil, has anyone tried it yet? How was it?

I use the Lucas, very smooth stuff i just got a new ('73) 10/22 and a couple drops made it feel almost too broken in. That said I am in Idaho and our dirt here just loves the stuff so I wouldn't recommend it for anything but range use. Overall great lube though, fixes squeeky sowing machines so daddy can nap.
