Default Smith & Wesson logo idea

Good day boys and girls:

I just got a Cabala's padded nylon rifle case that fits the 15-22 perfectly with the stock collapsed.

It's got 4 mag slots w/ Velcro covers and a forward zipper pocket.

I've been looking around for some kind of logo I can get stitched in. The forward pocket is on the outside of the padding.

I have seen that Smith has a sew on logo patch.

I was thinking about getting that from Smith and trying to find someone to sew it over the front pocket.

Does that description make sense to you all?

I know about copy right infringement and all, I just wonder if there are any ideas out there, other than the patch, that would work on a padded nylon gun case.

Thanks for any input

Mark

mrasgt,

Go with a S&W patch or patches on the pocket. No copyright issues.

It's a "do it yourself" project, just like sewing a patch on a uniform.
- use "tacky glue" to attach and position the patch on the pocket instead of pins.
- Attach the patch to the pocket with a "blind stitch". The blind stitch is up through the material and the edge embroidery of the patch between the embroidery stitching. By stitching under the patch embroidery you hide your stitching or the stitching is blind to the observer.

- Prep your needle and thread, Use a "carpet weight" thread, sew the patch to the pocket with a "blind stitch". Starting for pocket, stitch up through the pocket material and the edge of the patch between the embroidery stitches. After you have drawn the thread and needle through the pocket material and patch place the needle under five or six of the edge stitches, pulling the thread taught, stitch the needle back between the embroidery stitch through the patch backing and the pocket material. Repeat until you have completely stitched around the patch add one more stitch past your starting stitch. Tie off with a surgeon's knot, clip the lose ends.

The "blind" stitch doesn't leave any attachment threads exposed like the "whip" stitch, looks professional, and provides with the satisfaction of a job well done.

Aim small,

tat

Default Stitch

OK,

I think I get the stitching part, except, will there not be the rounded edges of the patch itself available for being caught
on anything it comes up against.?

As in, the gun case going in and out of my truck countless times?

I'm not a big one for understanding anything about sewing, but I have seen where most patches are sewn on where the edges won't get caught.

The other problem I can see it there is like no room inside the pocket of the case. I can see where I can flex the case to get some room....

I was hopefull that I could find a shop somewhere with a machine that can slide into the pocket from the zipper and make the patch work.

Thanks for the input.

Mark

I'll bet if you call a local Harley dealership (ask for someone who's in their local bike club), they'll probably know of a local seamstress who will probably do it for cheap and it will look perfect and last forever. Or check your local phone book, I'll bet it'd be real cheap to have it done by a pro.

Having a shop sew a patch is the easiest thing in the world. Just look for any local shop that services LE, military, etc. They probably sew a thousand patches a day and can have yours done in seconds, assuming it fits in the machine. If not they can do it by hand for a couple bucks extra probably. Using the tacky glue and a blind stitch as TATorg mentioned is definitely the best way, and you can request that if you don't want to do it yourself.

For corners make a couple of back stitches from the corner on each side to resist tearing.

Since the pocket is attached to the case, the only sewing/stitching machines to attach the patch needs to be a open cylinder arm to get inside the pocket. And even with a open cylinder machine it can be hard to go around the patch.

Another method is heat activated glue. Place glue on the patch and iron it on. You can get the ironing glue at most fabric stores.

I've got a flight helmet bag with a load of patches... the bag has gotten a lot of abuse ("been there, done that" character). I haven't lost one patch. In fact, it has gone through the washing machine a few times too.

Best of luck,

tat
