I sent an e-mail to S&W asking about the PC barrel, price and availability, cause I'm interesting in getting one also.
I also asked about getting a copy of the parts listing for all MP15-22 variants, but I haven't heard back from them yet
If and when I do I'll be sure to let everyone know what they say.

I asked S&W a couple of months ago, both diectly and through my dealer and the answer then was "NO". However, if there becomes enough of a demand, maybe they'll relent but I doubt it. They want to sell the rifle and I can understand that as they do have developement costs to recover. I thought it'd be cool if I could just up-grade my MOE.
So....I have a PC on order.

Well I got an answer to my e-mail, but I'm sure your not going to like it any more than I did.

"That barrel is not priced for re-sale at the current time. Please check back in the future and we may consider selling them at that point.

We cannot send out parts lists for the 15-22. Sorry."

Oh well, guess we'll have to make do with what we have for the time being.

I was afraid of that! I've been trying to find an exploded view with part numbers for quite awhile, with no luck. Disappointing....

Just got another message from a different person at S&W about the barrel.

Sir

The part number for the barrel is 407390000.
It is not available at this time.
Unfortunately we do not have a parts list available.
You can order parts by calling customer service 800 331 0852 x2905.

At least their consistent, unlike some companies who on one hand tell you sure you can have anything you like until you try ordering it.
Anyone wanna try calling them up and ordering a barrel, just for the hell of it, to see what happens?

I'm not sure what you mean by shotgun sized groups. My 870 with shot will struggle to be on paper at 25 yards and I've shot my 15-22 with ~2 MOA accuracy at 50 yards.

If you were expecting to shoot dime size groups out to 100 yards maybe you're expecting too much of a .22LR gun.

How long have you had your gun? Have you checked to see if the barrel is tight? Have you tried different ammo and what range are you shooting? Off hand or supported? Indoors or out?
and so on....

My rifle is coming around quite well. Althought I've only shot it indoors, it can put 10 rounds through a quarter size hole.

If you want a match grade sub minute of angle gun, you bought the wrong rifle. Spend a grand and buy an Anschutz or something similar.

If you want to get the best out of what you've got, take the time and read all the posts in this sub-forum.

Good luck to you.

Hobie

I think he was just making a joke.
Me I can't tell them I would sell my 15-22 for a 10/22 cause I already have a 10/22T that I added a carbon fiber barrel and a bunch of other goodies to.
That thing shoots better than anyone who's tried it can use.
I'm not looking for another tack driver, I just want the longer fluted barrel.
Hell, knowing me I could easily end up stuffing a standard chamber reamer in it so I can use Stingers in it.

well just venting a little i just dont understand why s&w cant sell the barrel why not give the people who buy there product the option to upgrade just sounds like greed to me .
i guess its like everything bring out something everyone wants
then a better one ,then even then one with better accuracy ,then not allow them to upgrade. if it were me i would have at least made it so it wouldnt fit by changeing the receiver or something if they didnt want to sell the barrel .. ok enough of my cryin (sorry)
mine will shoot about 2" groups with good ammo with a few flyers at 50yrds but man 500 gun come on i bought a 350 savage btvss out of the box with good optics at 50 yard i can cover 10 shots with a quarter same goes for my ruger 10-22 target for 400 both of these guns will shoot a 2" group at 100yards so as ive told people at the the range you are payin for the cool factor not performance .
now i dont mind buying upgrades to improve what i have
so why not let us buy the dang barrel
also they claim to have a match grade barrel in these things roflmao

I have to believe that its more a case of production scheduling than a desire to not sell any particular part at present.
The gun is still new an as with most things all of the production is probably earmarked for new guns with only a a few left over for warranty repair work.
As soon as they fill the production quota's for retail sales and have the restock pipeline filled, parts will start to fill up their warehouse parts bins and only then will they will begin to take orders for individual parts.
How long that takes is up to them and the demand for new PC rifles.
Once the initial demand for new rifles has been satisfied and production begins to outrun demand they will start to offer parts for sale.

But until then all we can do is keep bugging them until they reach that point that the market is saturated with new PC rifles or they think they can make a better profit off selling the barrels to us.

So with only a few of us asking, its not going to happen over night.
My guess would be that we won't see them selling the barrels until the middle of the summer or early fall when demand for new rifles starts to fall off.

If you bought a 2010 F150 and the 2011 comes out with an engine with double the power and fuel mileage would you expect Ford to crate up a motor for you as soon as the trucks start rolling off the line? No, you'd have to wait for dealers to be able to order the engine or find someone who got a new one and busted the frame.
