Google "TAC65"

This is what I am going to get if I ever get one. I am in love with the fact that it can be fully taken down for cleaning or parts replaced.

stevelee24 02-10-2011 07:31 AM

thanks il check that out buddy :)

wow $250 bit on the expensive side for me :D

Maximumbob54 02-10-2011 07:38 AM

Unless you know something that I don’t, that is a pretty decent deal for a rimfire can. They only seem to go up from there. You may be able to find a store that will sell you one a bit cheaper but I am unaware of any proper real functional gotta get the permit type suppressors. If I missed that you are looking for a fake then I apologize. If you want a fake make sure to read up on the BATFE rules for fake ones. They are a little goofy stringent on the way it has to be built.

ChattanoogaPhil 02-10-2011 08:13 AM

The problem with suppressors is that there are too many to chose from. I ended up choosing the YHM Wraith. There are lots of cheaper and more expensive suppressors but it was the right size (1.25'' vs 1.0'') I was looking for to put on a rifle, and those who know about such things at the rifle club have said they have heard no quieter 22 can. Most people seem to like a 22 can that can be taken apart for cleaning. The Wraith does not. I have put about 2k rounds through it and just soak in mineral spirits. It has gained no weight so I'm guessing mineral spirits are doing the job. Belt_Fed told me to shoot it using wire pulling grease and that would help with cleaning.

Am going to SBR the 15-22 to keep the rifle short. Probably leave the Sig the way it is due to the longer forearm and folding stock. The Ruger is just stupid quiet.

Thats $125.23 U.S If anyone was wondering and sounds cheap go for it!

grimreaper21 02-10-2011 02:15 PM

for that price i'd be wondering if it was even a real/function supressor. i've seen them run up to $1,000. if you're not in the USA does your gov. have anything similar to the tax stamp required here.

Maximumbob54 02-10-2011 02:19 PM

I somehow think that a major portion of what you are paying for is litigation and legal fee’s for a suppressor. They aren’t exactly high technology. If it wasn’t seriously illegal (AND IT IS) they aren’t that hard to make from junk around the house. So I can hardly see the cost really being what it is for what you are getting.

And come to think of it... Doesn't England have just about the opposite laws on them as you would think? I read once shotguns are encouraged to have them there... Really... It keeps the noise down so people don't complain. I swear I'm not making this up.

Regarding Replacing Parts sorry but you as an individual May Not replace the internal parts of a TAC-65. You May send it back to the manufacturer or to a SOT2 who can legally Repair said suppressor. Interestingly enough the BATFE considers each Baffel to be a Suppressor in itself. So to possess an extra baffel would constitute having a unregistered NFA Item.

As far as taking a .22 suppressor apart to clean it really isn't nessary and soaking the suppressor a mixture of Kroil and Automatic Transmission Fluid works just fine. Also .22 Cans tend to get Quieter with use so a little build up is quite acceptable.

I have an original Gemtech Outback that has maybe upwards of 10.000 Rds. through it most of which were from a Select Fire Ruger 10/22 and it is quieter than many new High End .22 suppressors.

Thats correct most people use a silencer in the UK even on airguns for hunting as the sound of gunshots can often lead to the police getting called and armed response units coming out at massive expense for someone legally shooting a rabbit on there land.
Not only that its better for hunting as the bangs scare everything away with a silencer you can plink a few rabbits without them even knowing about it hehe

I just purchased a swr spectre and with the tax stamp it cost me 606.18

Most suppressors I've seen for a .22 range from about $250-$600. Liberty makes a titanium for about $600. I been over to see David and have used the titanium on my 15-22. He's really a great guy.

If you guys want to see and hear a suppressed 15-22 (as well as some others and full auto) check out this video on Liberty's web site.

BELT_FED 02-10-2011 08:49 PM

if he is in the uk a suppressor there is dirt cheap.. compared to here anyway.. with that said most of the larger suppressor companies cans will do what your wanting to do. Yes one companies can might be 2 dbs quieter than another but the human ear cant tell what db it is quiet is quiet and unless your db drag racing with someone elses can you will never know the difference. I suggested the wraith to phil because of its size and the fact he wanted it for a rifle. A slightly larger can looks better on a rifle and just like engines there is no replacement for displacement.. The larger the can the more it can contain in volume and baffles which means it will usually be quieter.

ChattanoogaPhil 02-11-2011 06:25 PM

I had not shot at paper yet with my suppressor. It doesn't seem to affect accuracy much. Here is a full mag at exactly 50 yards. The two low shots were my first two shots. I'm wondering if it takes a couple shots to warm up the suppressor or something? Maybe Belt_Fed or someone can say? A full mag of CCI Standard Velocity using my range bag for a rest (Sig522). The hole is about an inch or a little under from end to end. I suppose using sandbags and 5 shot groups you could get the group size way down but that really isn't the point here. I just wanted to see if the suppressor negatively affected accuracy and it does not seem to at all. This is pretty much how the rifle did without a suppressor.

The Liberty Essence has been getting some pretty rave reviews, the Kodiak TL has as well...

Some other suppressors to look at-
Silencerco SS Sparrow
AAC Prodigy
SWR Spectre
Gemtech Outback II
Thompson Machine Zephyr

How does the tax stamp work for suppressors? Is it registered to a specific rifle our can you use the suppressor on multiple guns? With that in mind, is there a suppressor on the market that will work with both 22lr an .223 calibers?

A can isn't registered to a specific firearm. I use mine on multiple rifles and pistol. (are the pics not showing again in the above postings?) Yes, a .223 can works great, even better, on a .22 than a rimfire can. Problem is that it weighs a lot more. Example: YHM Mite weighs 3oz. YHM Phantom for a .223 weighs 20oz. Some buy a 308 can and use it for 223.

I didn't say I want to keep spair parts on hand. It's the difference in being able to have a small part replaced or buying a whole new can. And yes, soaking parts may break down fouling but I want to know with my eyes it isn't gumming up too bad. From my limited experience some .22's can cause excessive leading in the baffles compared to others. Wouldn't being able to break the can down be nice to check once in a while? And lastly, yes, some fouling can help, but at what point does that build up start to work against you? I try not to over explain, so I was gulty of trying to share an opinion while not blathering on. Sorry.

I was concerned about that because the Wraith does not come apart. I just use my wife's kitchen scale. The Wraith weighed just 5oz when I got it. I've put a couple thousand rounds through it and it weighs 5oz now. So whatever there might be in there that I can't see doesn't weigh anything... so it can't be lead. :D

Hello Gentlemen. Having just made a trade with Kenny at C.G.I.
( Coastal Guns Inc.) I will be joining the ranks of the suppressed in a couple of months.

Coastal seems like a great company, and Kenny is a member here.

I am convinced now to buy a threaded 15-22 as my 22 rifle.

Has anyone considered having their barrel modified with a
welded on cage to house the suppressor?
Tactical solutions makes a barrel for the 10-22 that keeps the overall
length at 16" .
Maybe they could do the modification.
