Default M&P 15-22 Mass Compliant

I finally broke down and bought one of the M&P 15-22's, I had heard bad things about FTF FTE etc and held off. Finally at the gun show yesterday I broke down and bought one.
NOW I WANT TWO!
What a great gun! I added a carry handle because to me being a Vietnam Era Veteran it just looks right.

Mass Compliant, we cannot have a muzzle break (flash hider) and we cannot have a telescoping stock and we cannot have more than 10 rounds in a magazine, we cannot breath, we cannot procreate...
It kills me that a street sweeper, a 12 gauge with a pistol grip is legal but a M&P 15-22 cannot have a telescoping stock!

Anyhow here is my new baby!

Yeah the people that make the rules have no common sense sometimes but at least people like you and me can take pride in knowing there's no descrimination of idiots when defending freedom. Congrats on the new purchase, too much fun.

Congrats, it's a great gun, we have one. While you were buying yours, probably at Willmington? We were at Smith & Wesson, my wife was shooting her 15-22 like a mad woman with a crazy smile on her face. She loves that gun...

Yup, Wilmington.

I was impressed 1 inch 20 shot groups at 50 feet resting it on my elbow, not on a rest.

I was feeding it Walmart bulk ammo and it didn't hickup.

I love it on the original Betsy Ross flag, too cool!

What always slayed me, as I was raised in Mass, is that they are HQ'd
there, but have the most anal laws.

Do they still have FID cards there? I still have mine from 1976!

Enjoy your fine firearm, I can only rent one at the range at the mo', as
I am waiting for a bonus check from my boss.

Once in my hot li'l hands, BAM, off like a shot to get one...

CA vs MA

The each have some attributes that the other doesn't, CA has restrictions on C&R's and lots of handgun restrictions.

MA has even more Handgun restrictions, can't buy anything that isn't on 2 approved lists (no Colts) or was owned and registered here before 1998.

ALSO we have TOTAL GUN REGISTRATION, LONG GUNS SHOT GUNS HANDGUNS!

i think in ct you can't have a pistol grip and and adjustable stock, so i'd leave it pinned. in ct you can have 25rd mags, or a 50rd drum (not for hunting) for now. they did just introduce a law that would ban high cap mags, so i'd hold off before you stock up on those.

In Mass we have a ban on high cap mags, it was put in, in 1998 (or was it 1994) but any mag owned before 1998 is still legal and can be sold, also the McCarthy bill in the US House that bans high cap mags allows you to keep the ones you have but can never sell or trade them, so I would get them while you can.
We can have a pistol grip but not a muzzle break or an adjustable stock, I know of people who have taken the pin out, but I worry about getting caught so just leave it where it is

I wonder if I could take the pin out, set it to where I like the stock and repin it?

removing the pin means you had an adjustable stock even if only for 2 minutes (gray area). that being the reason i don't have a single point sling adapter on mine.

the ct law as it was introduced on the 1st won't allow grandfathered mags. they expect you to permanently modify, destroy, or hand them over to local police. that's why i'd hold off before buying a bunch, or spending $100 on a drum. - i seriously hope they don't vote it into law.

Jeez! Up here in Alaska you're required by law to have at least 1 collapsible stock per family member and every newborn is given 3 high capacity mags ... I'm kidding and I guess I understand the basic philosophy behind these laws. But man! Really putting a damper on a lot of potential fun especially with a gun like the 15-22. I feel for you guys and I promise to go all out in honor of those who can't!

WOW, the CT law is even stricter that the Federal proposal! Yikes I am glad I moved from West Hartford (where I was born).
At least with Mass I know the enemy and find work arounds.

The 15-22 can't use clips, just magazines;-)
You won't need a bunch of tools. A bench vise, vise jaws, barrel nut wrench, allen wrench, Etc. You will probably have more parts and pieces than tools.
As far as the stock replacement goes, read and understand the laws before you do anything. Technically, it's very simple. Legally??????

I always thought Calif was worse than Mass until I started collecting handguns. Whether on Gun Broker or from an individual if the gun is outside of Mass and you want to buy it, if it is new it has to be on 2 approved lists, if it is used and newer than 1998 it has to be on the same lists, if pre-98 you can only buy it if it has documentation that it was previously owned in Mass!
Since out of state sales have to go through a FFL dealer they have to follow the state laws. I just got my Southern Ohio gun ad and there are a bunch of Single Action revolvers for short money, but they are illegal in Mass.
About the only saving grace is I love Smiths and several dealers feel that all Smiths were under a "dealers license" when they were built and so can be "imported".

The solution, Join the NRA, donate money to candidates who support your views. Vote and tell other like minded individuals to do the same.

Hi Ben,

Here in The Netherlands the M&P 15-22 is getting more populair then ever, since high quality AR-15 .223 rounds are hard to get. We have only cheap Russian Bernaul and Wolff ammunition over here, which requires more cleaning after shooting and it has steel brass. Reloading is also very populair here as well.

What's the story about no flash hider and 10 rounds capacity magazines? Why is it illegal? Here in The Netherlands it's prohibited to have full auto weapons, but there's no limit in magazine capacity. We are allowed to have 5 firearms in all calibers, except .50 on our permit; and with a maximum of 10.000 rounds of ammunition in stock (in your house) which need to be stored seperate from our firearms.

At the moment, the telescoping stock is illegal as well, the local gun shop will glue it at you desired position with strong (automotive) glue. But there are stories, that the telescoping stock will be legal maybe this year.

Cheers Edwin

Amen to that. We need to let our representitves know that we want things changed. And we need to tell them what we want them change to.
If we don't keep in touch with them, they will not know.
It is a little bit of work, but it is so worth it.

As a fellow MA firearm enthusiast, I wanted to let my support. Just joined this forum, and there is a lot of great info. They may be strict on guns but it is a pretty good state overall.

In a movie, Mel Gibson plays a MA police Det. sitting on a river bench enjoying a bottle in a bag. A friendly Det. sits down beside him to comfort Mel then says "you know, drinking in public is against the law". To which Gibson calmly replies "everything in MA is against the law".

Sad but true.

They just passed the bumpstock law, but if you really read it, it could be interpreted to outlaw all semi-auto handguns!

Here is the line in question

it "facilitates repeated activation of the trigger" by "using energy from the recoil of the weapon".

isn't that the definition of a semi-auto?

I have not read the "law" but since you can "bump fire" most any semi auto, would that not ban all semi autos? Be Safe,

It bans anything that can activate the trigger other than your finger. Although if they saw Jerry Micklick fire a revolver they may ban fingers
