Default installing quad rails on other M&P15's?
I'm enjoying my 15-22 so much I'm thinking about getting one of the higher caliber M&P15's. I notice that one doesn't get a rails system like on the 15-22 until you reach the top of S&W's line. Otherwise it's the synthetic rubber fore-end.

So, I'm wondering what is involved in installing rails systems like are on our 15-22's on other AR's? From what I have seen the part itself isn't too expensive.

You need a Delta ring Wrench



then get a nice rail system like:

Daniel Defense
LaRue Tactical
Knight's Armament Company

front rail from $250 - $1000

If you mean a quad rail handguard;

You don't always need a wrench to install quad rail handguards, or need to spend a fortune on quad rails because of the name on them. It depends on which model of the M&P 15 you get that will determine overall what you get for handguards and the installation method needed.

For example the carbine OR model can use these > http://www.primaryarms.com/product.s...4&categoryId=1 $29.99 and just as good as anyones $200.00 item with their name on them, especially for the price. Rock solid, installed in about two minutes, and drop in with no wrench needed. You just pull down on the delta ring, take off the factory handguards, snap these in place and tighten down the four screws and your done.

NOTE: Avoid the Daniel Defense M4 Rail - the Shroud Nut that mounts the rail up to their barrel nut has a poor design for the barrel wrench notches and if you ever need to remove it you could run into problems.

For a good quality rail, LaRue is GREAT and so is Spike's Tactical. The Daniel Defense Lite Rail not only looks great, mounts easy, but is a free float.

Yes, the OR model is what I have my eye on. I saw a video at brownell's showing the installation and it was very simple. But I figured there had to be a catch to justify the much higher prices of the models with rails preinstalled.
