Default Life Time Warranty

I talk to S&W customer service today

I can send my S&W 15-22 to S&W to thread the barrel and put on a A1 Flash Hider for $130.00 Plus $30.00 shipping for a total of $160.00. I would still have a Life Time Warranty

or

I can have it threaded myself for around $100.00. S&W customer service said I would void the warranty on the barrel

or

I can put on a threaded barrel adapter for around $40.00 but again customer service said I would void the warranty on the barrel if the adapter did anything bad.

I did not ask how much a new barrel with a FH was.

So which way do I go?

Thanks

if you are going to rely on S&W for warranty work in the future, go with them

if you don't mind paying for mistakes or future problems go the other route.

It's depends how much you wanna spend.

Depends on how important the warranty is to you. I'd rather have the warranty myself, so I would send it to S&W. Never know when you might need that warranty and if you have to pay any future repair out of your pocket because you no longer have a warranty you will probably end up paying at least the difference of what you saved now anyway. After all, part of what you paid for in the cost of the weapon was the warranty so why just throw it away which is essentially what you will be doing by not having S&W do it.

Will S&W weld on a muzzle break (flash hider) since in Massachusetts we can cannot buy a gun with a flash hider or compensator and if we add it after the fact it has to be welded on.

You sure it has to be welded? Maybe i'm thinking of that match competition rifle exception thing you guys have there.

Doesn't one of the vendors here sell a flash hider that doesn't require the barrel to be threaded for about $20?

EDIT: Maybe this http://www.****************/shop/ind...&products_id=4 is what I was thinking of.

EDIT2: LOL, forum blocks links to that site. I guess they are not a site sponsor. Google "15-22 barrel thread converter" for info.

I haven't found any for $20.00 yet. Found 1 for 30.00 shipped then you need the A1 flash hider for maybe 10.00 shipped. Not sure this is the best way to go.

On the other hand, the thread adaper thing should not really do any damage that would void the warranty...

search for > "Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 Threaded Barrel End for Non-Threaded Muzzles" < only costs $30.00

Then attach a flash suppressor. But do you want that chunk of metal hanging off the end of your barrel?

But,,, if you look at the "Colt M4 .22 Barrel Thread Converter" it would probably work and looks a heck of a lot better and almost like the real deal on the real M4 style weapon (somewhat) and its only $25.00

Tacticool, com also has the same "Colt M4 .22 Barrel Thread Converter" but its $30.00 .... and also has the "Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 Threaded Barrel End for Non-Threaded Muzzles" for $30.00

Don't know if the "Colt M4 .22 Barrel Thread Converter" would work on the 15-22 though, but it does look nicer then the other thing and $5.00 cheaper at the http://www.mp15-22,com/products/colt...cessories.html

Foxtrot,
to the best of my knowledge and from what the gunsmith told me when I had a welded suppressor put on my AR15, they have to be permantly affixed and can never be removed.

I talk to S&W customer service yesterday

They don't actually thread the old barrel

I can send my S&W 15-22 to S&W for a NEW barrel and put on a A1 Flash Hider for $130.00 Plus $30.00 shipping for a total of $160.00. I would still have a Life Time Warranty

They don't actually thread the old barrel and they said they will send the old barrel back.

So you end up with a new threaded barrel with the flash hider you wanted, and get your "old" barrel back too, and still have your warranty and something that looks nicer than something that doesn't like a chunk of metal hanging off the end of the weapon with those thread adapter things. You end up with a spare barrel also. Not too bad really for what you get in the end.

The Colt M4 .22 Barrel Thread Converter is for the Umarex rifles. They have a barrel tube inside an outer sleeve. The Umarex H&K .22LR series is the same.
The only adapter is the one for the 15-22 non threaded barrel. It will not do any damage to the barrel, other than putting a small divot where the set screw bites in. That divot can be filed off and re blued quite easily. It's no worse than a scratch on the barrel.
I like the look of the barrel shroud, without anything else. It's clean and simple.

S&W customer service is A1

Sent Rifle in on 3/18/11(it was supposed to take 4 to 6 weeks)

Today 4/5/11 I received rifle back. 6 days shipping plus 6 days with the week end. It has a threaded barrel and flash hider. The old barrel with the barrel nut (so now I can make my own barrel wrench) and a extra new magazine.

What fantastic CS

What great service
