promag vs plinker tactical
Which is better as far as marterial, function and reliability? I'm looking at getting one of them, cant decide which. If it matters, I have a black dog 50 round drum.

I have tried the PT magazine and, as far as I am concerned, it is a failure. Many others who have tried it are of basically the same opinion. It's a pain to load and PT wants another $8 (on top of $30 for the mag) for the loading tool. You can find my comments at the end of this thread:
Plinker Tactical 35 Round Magazine
As for the ProMag, others seem to have had decent results with them, but I've yet to have a ProMag that I didn't throw away.
ProMag 32 Round Magazines
Until someone comes up with a reasonably-priced 50-round double-stack magazine, I'm sticking with S&W magazines. I hate the looks of drums and don't really need those big magazines so I can pretend I am running a machine gun.

that stinks that pt want to charge more so you can get use out of the mag. i just watched a video on thier website and it looked like a pain to load, even with the loader. well the promag at least looks like a stock mag. you know what they say, form follows function right? so maybe it wont be a failure.
Whats promag's reputation like?

ProMags are good for the receiving end of target practice. Trust me they are a waste of money. If you cant get oem get McGar.

In the centerfire world, ProMag is considered junk. The quality is poor and the quality control worse.
MecGar does not make 15-22 magazines.

As far as I'm concerned, the Pro-Mags are as good as the factory mags. I have used them for Steel Challenge and havn't had a single issue with them.

Maybe with the polymer 15-22 magazines, they got their act together. Their metal magazines are pretty much trash.

Their polymer AR15 magazines which are Magpul PMAG knockoffs are also junk. Knowing that, I would stay away from the promag 15-22 magazines.

I am amazed, given their abysmal reputation, that they are still in business. I guess the old saying still applies ...

I know that most of thier magazines have a bad rap, but they did a great job on these mags. I got them from midway for 12.99 each. Knowing how they work now I would pay as the same as a factory mag for them.

I suppose we should document on this thread that all 15-22 magazines have been largely unavailable during the guns and ammo craziness of 2013. ProMag, however, stepped up their production early on and made their 32-round version available on their website. My order was on back order for a while and it took a month to reach me. I ordered an additional two of the 15-22 mags about two months ago and I am still waiting for them. Their website is a little misleading in that you can place your order for the mags right now but there is nothing in the ordering process that warns you of or indicates such long waits.
The mags themselves are of good quality and load easily. I have read where some folks won't buy them because they don't like ProMag AR .223 mags. Though I prefer my lone S&W mag, the ProMag is the next best choice and it would be foolish to avoid them when the S&W's were out of stock, like now. By the way, if anyone knows where to get S&W 15-22 mags, 10 or 25- round, please sound off.

You can call S&W direct and place an order for the mags. (even though they are listed as OOS online).
They will take your credit card info, but will not charge the card until processed and shipped.
I just did this today, after basically 'giving up' trying to find any.
No ETA for delivery, (2-3 months was the reps current estimate).
Now I wait...
Thanks. Eric

Here is a thread for pro mags, I just purchased a couple last month they all worked fine, all 32 rounds fed, bolt locked back.
ProMag Order
There were a couplelaces to order directly from promag, which several people had problems and then through tactical vantage.com

Most of it is hearsay and poor shooting skills although there is truth in everything. I have used other Promag mags myself. The 22 round ones for the Rem 597 are the best you can get for that rifle, as they work even better than the Rem 30s. I have had 20rd mags for the Browning Hi-Power and while they worked I would not trust my life on them. Have not tried the AR mags but I have similar quality Thermolds in my safe and those will work but I also would not trust them in a SHTF situation like I would the Magpuls and Lancers. As for the 15-22 32s I have completely switched to them for speed shooting. They can be taken apart to be cleaned and they load just as well as the S&W ones. 32 rounds means I can do an entire Steel Challenge stage with one mag, instead of having to use a 25 and a 10.

i have 5 promag 32 rounders,i got 2 of them as 10 round longs and converted them to 32 rounders.so far i havent had one issue with the promags i have.they lock the bolt open everytime, easy to load, and hold 7 rounds more than stock so you get to shoot more and reload less.if you cant get the smith 25 round mags then the promags would be my second choice.ive seen the plinkers and they just look like garbage and the price is around $30/ea compared to around $20/ea for the promags.all the reviews i have read about the plinkers just confirmed that plinkers are garbage.the build quality of the promags is basicly the same as the stock smith mags and the only visible difference is the promag 32's are about 2.5" longer than smith 25's.

The ProMag 32rds have been as reliable as the original S&W 25rd mags. They're as easy to load, feed well and operate the same (bolt holds open on empty). Personally I feel they look awkward and are too long for shooting with my bipod.

Even though I have a dozen 25-round magazines, I find that I prefer using my short 10-rounders more and more.
