Hey Ron, I'm new here, but I've made my own barrel nut tool out of 3/4 inch schedule 80 pvc. It works like a charm. When removing my barrel for the first time, I noticed the torque was very light. There was no damage to the pvc tool and making one is very easy and cheap. Just take some masking tape and cut it in 1/8 of an inch strips and place over the end of the pvc pipe in a cross pattern. Then using another piece of tape in the same dimensions to wrap around the end of the pipe where the cross is. Finally, use a drimmel tool to file away the tape in between the ends of the cross at 1/8 of an inch so you have four stubs protruding at the end. Remove left over tape and you check to see if the tool now seats in the grooves of the barrel nut. Some additional filing may be needed to fully seat the stubs in the barrel nut but you will have a cheap and efficient tool at hand. I painted mine black when I finished it. It looks cool and functions well. Hope this helps.
