Any one know where i can get a new extractor pin/spring, some how i had an over charge while i was out shooting and not I went from a semi 15-22 to a single shot 15-22 lol. I'm new to this site and owning my own rifle. I'm an expert marksman with shooting but not an expert on anything else when it comes to rifles so any help would be welcomed.

it wasnt an over charge. it was a oob. which is kinda comon on these guns with certain ammos. but to answer your ? the parts you seek are s&w only. you will need to call and get a shipping lable to send it back. unless you speak very nicely and they might send you the parts. good news is s&w has a great warranty policy compared to other gun manuf.

You need to call and send it back to S&W. I had the same thing happen awhile back. They are going to want the whole gun not just the bolt.

Yep, the common out of battery firing.

The M16 trigger will release the hammer before the bolt is completely closed. In the M16 this makes no difference as the firing pin is too short to reach the primer until the bolt rotates back into the bolt carrier and locks behind the lugs. On the M&P15-22, however, the cartridge is held against the face of the bolt during controlled feeding and if the hammer drops with the bolt partially open it can strike the firing pin which in turn strikes the cartridge rim. Bang!

Bottom line: Call or Email S&W and start looking for a shipping box. When the pre-paid label arrives stick it on the box, stick the rifle inside, and let FedEx take it to S&W. It will come back directly to you when repaired so use a return address where someone will be there to sign for it.

It can happen any time. The biggest reason for this is an improperly adjusted ejector. It the ejector is adjusted and bent in properly you will likely never have an OOB.

The empty case has long been ejected out of the receiver. Maybe a maladjusted extractor can slow the cycling enough the bolt lacks the momentum to go into battery?

Aside from using a trigger system never intended for a controlled feed, blow back rifle I believe it's a chamber issue. Dirty or tight chamber only partially chambers a round and this rifle will fire out of battery. I doubt you can pull the trigger fast enough to catch a cartridge partially chambered. The case wasn't gonna go all the way in anyway. Dirty/tight chamber? Slow cycling? Result is the same. I've not had an out of battery detonation since I aggressively polished my chamber and bolt rails.

This rifle uses controlled feed. The cartridge case slips up and under the extractor and is held in the recess on the bolt face from the time it's stripped from the magazine. Once the bullet itself gets into the chamber it's held tight enough against the face of the bolt that the firing pin can firmly strike the rim and detonate.



The angles of the rear of the bolt, hammer, and firing pin will all make contact with the bolt partially open. I've heard S&W has changed some of the bolt/firing pin design to help prevent this but the fact remains that the M16/AR15 trigger system will release the hammer long before the bolt is in battery. The hammer cannot strike the firing pin until the bolt is almost closed. Almost ain't good enough.
