Default High velocity 22lr

I'm halfway through 1000 rounds of Winchester SuperX high velocity in my 15-22. Seems accurate for most rounds fired, although maybe 5-10% unexplainably miss L/R by up to nearly a foot at 100yds. I can see this when running with my scope at 7x.

Could this just be inconsistencies in the bullet castings? Is the bullet transitioning from super to subsonic a possible factor too?

Gonna try this weekend side by side with some American Eagle that I just picked up, too.

Thoughts appreciated.

It could just be a slight shift in you aim at time of trigger pull. Even a small variation can add up to a big flyer at 100yds. Which particular SuperX cartridge are you shooting. I have only shot SuperX HP's.

At 100 yards it could be a lot of things... wind... sonic transitions... trigger control... breathing... muscle twitches... bullet variances... casing variances... load variances... dirty barrel... dirty chamber...

You get the idea...

Its the nature of high velocity, inaccurate and I don't use them in any of my guns.

For a good stable/accurate round, try PMC Sidewinder solid point (lead round nose), 40gr, 1250fps. It usually runs about $1.86/box of 50 rounds and shoots very accurate in my 15-22. Cheaper than Dirt carries them. Have not shot out to 100 yet with it, but barrel twist, velocity, and bullet weight will cause inconsistencies if the barrel cannot stabilize the spin of the round because it travels too fast, or too slow. Find what it likes to eat and stick to that. Trigger pull is the other factor--unsteady aim and a subtle yank to either side can throw you off a great deal at further distances.

Well, I was bench firing with a scope, nice and slow, and we're talking 22, so not much in the way of a flinch or other technique problem.

I tested out the American Eagle and I have to say I didn't see the same problem. Quality of the American Eagle seems to be a bit better, and probably is a cleaner round overall. So I guess that's progress.
