Hey all, I just joined the forum after lookin and lurking all day. I bought my 15-22 on a whim this past Friday, "used" ser. DTH11XX , no blue springs , hope i wont have any probs. I got the rifle with Magpull MBUS sights, 5 magazines, soft tactical case and 525 round box of Federal for $502 OTD.
Immediatly after arriving home I quickly mounted an old BSA 42mm red dot sight and went down back to my range. Got her all sighted within first 25rd mag. Wonder of wonders the dot in the red dot sets excactly on top of the front post of the Magpul sights
I have fired over 500rds through it as of Sat. rained all day today . This is the most fun ive had in a long time.
I had gone looking for another Ruger 10-22 to build, woulda been my 3rd. Wicked glad some guy was trading this 15-22 when i walked in, I eavsdropped for a bit and jumped on it as soon as he was gone. I am a little nervouse as I did buy the rifle used so I'm not sure if S&W will help me if I have problems with the gun.
Had I done some research here before I bought I would have looked for a later model with the blue springs. At the time it seemad like a great deal with all the extras. Does anyone know if the "Blue" springs are available from S&W?
Thanks for all the info I have already gleaned from here, this is a great site.

Welocme. Why not just buy the JP Enterprises "yellow" springs for $10 and have a nice 4 1/2 - 5 lb trigger pull to boot? Can't go wrong.

they could be "blue" springs... the color comes off within a few cleanings.

G26ster, have been thinking that as a next to do item, the trigger spring that is. Im more concerned with long term function right now though. In the first 500 plus rounds only one ftf which was caused by a buddys poor handling ( he didnt release the charge handle, he slowly closed it and it didnt chamber fully, definatly operator error) no fte at all. The rifle did look as if it had never been fired though. Also as it was bought used may not be warrantied. Dont know. Got a 7day warranty through my dealer so Im gonna shoot her till she breaks this week.

DrD562, it seems from reading here I may have an early model gun and it may be prone to fte or firing out of battery probs, those who have returned theres for a fix and the newer models come with a blue spring on the bolt. Some guns also had extractor probs. This is all info I found on here and by searching on the web.

the key term is "may have"...there are a lot of unknowns here...

-Have you test fired with CCI Mini Mag ammo yet?
This will definately tell you if there is an issue as it is widely accepted fact that the mini mags are the ONLY ammo everyone seems to agree on for ANY 15-22 for a feed test ( please correct me if anybody disagrees) because individual rifles seem to be finicky about different types/brands

-Did you try contacting S&W with the serial # to see if it had been sent in and serviced previously? Remember this was a used rifle! the previous owner may have already done the tough part for you

Its great to know that the thread is helping new owners figure out what to look for earlier--i was one of them a couple months ago!--this is why we are here; because we all have some perspective or knowledge to share

Good Luck, Welcome, and keep us posted with what you find
