Default problems,, problems,,, magazine fix????

i got a M&P-22, as soon as they came out with the threaded barrels, and it is a total dog. basically a single shot, with 8 different types of ammo. i was eading the forums at the time, and tried tuning the ejector, but it still does not work. now,, i have faith in, and realize that smith has outstanding warrenties, and will be happy to fix this junker. but,, i got aggravated with messing with it, and chunked it in a closet and forgot about it until asked by a guy at the range,
yesterday, '' what ever did you do with that *** you were fooling with''?
that got me to thinking about it again, and now i am going to do something to get it fixed, or throw it in the creek, with a quarter taper to it, so i can say i threw away something worth 2 bits.
then, this morning i remembered i had ordered some mags from .44 mag, that were marked a little different from the factory mags, which i was using during all my problems. did smith revise the mags, to make the rifle more reliable???
on top of everything else, i had bought another one for my grandson, unfired in the box, that i didn't give him because of all my troubles. i guess next week i will get all this resolved, one way or another, see if the lad's gun will operate, send mine to smith for repairs, etc. this has drug on long enough. any hot tips, or advise, now that the rifles have been out a while???

Send it in. If you keep having the urge to fix it yourslef, take two aspirin and lie down until the feeling goes away.
Put all relevant detail in a letter with the gun and let S&W do their fix thing! Fill out this form and they will send you a shipping label:

#1-I would be careful about calling this rifle a junker or a dog, especially in this forum.

#2-Don't try working on a rifle at home, especially with extractors, because it is always easier to get it done right the first time by S&W. And, extractors are finnicky.

#3-You made the right call in getting one for your grandson.

Hope you get it fixed so you can play with it soon.

The issues you're describing were quite common the first year the rifle came out-- this forum was flooded with complaints. At first, folks were sending them in for repair but still having problems after getting their rifle back from S&W. That's changed. I can't remember the last time I read a post about someone not being pleased with how their rifle operated after getting it back from S&W. So... I would just go ahead and send it to S&W (doesn't cost anything) and in a couple weeks it will arrive back to you good to go.

i think yall are giving sound advice, and the best thing to do with it is contact the factory. and, OKFC05 was kind enough to provide a link to the repair shop,, thank you!! as far as calling it junk,, that is exactly what i have, [ and paid over $400 for] and was afraid to even shoot the new one for the grandson. the worst part of all this, my shooting buddy had just got one of the colt [amerex?, umex??].22s and i ragged him about paying $100 more than the FINE smith just coming on the market. of course, he was with me, when i TRIED to shoot it, and his colt worked like new money. we still laugh about the crow i had to eat that day. it was also the year-end range meeting day, and everybody wanted to see/shoot the new smith AR-15 22,, but that did not work out too spiffy. as aggravated and disgusted as i got with it, i KNEW help was a phone call away, and smith would deluxe me right on up, without any hassle what-so-ever. i was too disgusted with it to even fool with it, so i stuck it in the back of a closet, not being worthy to put in my safe. BTW, even though i own noveske, colt, BCM, ARs, i simply love my smith AR-15 and it is dead reliable.

that's what i kept telling him,, but,, he just could not wait a few more weeks, and all i had read was were all kind of folks was having severe problems with the umarex. boy,, did i hardly know!!!! in all fairness, MOST of the guys online had sterling results------but i definitely did not. what i especially liked was the reports of outstanding accuracy from the smith, which had great appeal to me. i waited on the threaded barrel as i have a suppressor on a ruger 77/22 that will screw right on the smith. they are coming out with the m&p 22 pistol and i have one ordered,, but now,, i am going to wait a few years until they get it de-bugged. it is not my turn to spend a lot of money, to find the flaws in their product. you should think that ANYBODY could bring out a flawless new model it would be smith. -------once burned,, once learned.

No matter what the company is, it takes thousands of different types of people using their weapons in different conditions with different ammo and all using them differently to find out what the minor(sometimes major) kinks are. I have had a bad experience with new weapons on the market also. I will not buy a semi-auto weapon that is new to the market again ever again.

this is the same reason why i wont buy new cars or electronics either--however leswill did state that he SHOULD have sent the rifle back to SW instead of monkeying with it ( we are all men here--we understand!) so blame SW as much as you'd like; this could have been resolved weeks or months ago...he chose not to send it in

i agree product testing isnt what it used to be, and i make no excuses for the problems being present, however Smith and Wesson has been very forthcoming in correcting the problems

Wow, I am sorry to hear about so many problems with your rifle. I hope the second one is better.

I picked up my 15-22 a little over a month ago and loved it so much, I bought the pistol when I heard that is was no longer being produced.

I have about 2k+ through the rifle and close to approaching 1k on the pistol and have not had one failure to feed, failure to fire or failure to eject.

I also have eight 25 round mags, and two 10 round mags (from 44mag.com and midwayusa.com, when they were on sale). So far, I have a zero issues with any of the mags.

Like other recommended, I suggest sending the weapon back to S&W and let their armorers make it right for you. I promise when it is fixed, you will love this gun.
