I await the B.A.D. lever's completion, since I have the Magpul B.A.D. lever on all of my AR15s, I want to continue the flow for training reasons with the M&P 15/22.... I was thinking of getting the magpul and modifying it to the M&P 15/22, but I will wait a tad longer.. Thanks

Well from the way things look on the 3rd revision I will probably go back to the 2nd version (shown on this thread). The changes I made cut the weight more but added time and another operation. From what the testers have said I guess that weight was not a factor. So I will put out the 2nd as the "finished" version. When... That is still up in the air. Got a family member fighting cancer and I feel that helping them out is a bit more important. I am still maybe looking at having them made just got to find a decent price so I can offer them to you guys at a cost that won't kill the piggy bank. I'm still going to do this and I know y'all are getting tired of waiting, just a lot on my plate and it looks like a 5 corse meal.

Family is absolutely more important! No need to apologize man. At this point this is a hobby and not your livelihood or a full time business. You have to do what you have to do.

forgive me for asking, but I've read this entire thread and for the life of me can't figure out what this thing is for and what exactly is it that it actually does?

its just really for faster reloadin, instead of having to take your forward hand off to hit the bolt release you can now use your trigger finger.

First of all, Juvicator, You rock man, thanks for puttin so much time and effort into a project like this!

Now, Two things I would like to see before I bought this product, and trust me, fix these two things and I would be all over this. And again, just suggestions, First, start the downward slope further towards the rear, aligning with the all ready existing groove in the gun, thus removing the need for clearence of the mag drop button. And then a gradual slope back towards the front of the gun along with thinning the piece of metal at this point so there is not so much metal in my trigger gaurd. Thats the hard part.....Easy part.....Black

The actual physics of the lever is a pain. The thing is that the fulcrum point is the hinge of the ping pong paddle. The arm can't be closer to the side of the lower or when it is actuated it will hit right below the paddle. Now I can try and make it snake a little closer to the forward side of the trigger guard might be able to scootch it over 1/8 inch or so. I will look at it again and see what can be tweaked. As far as black, yes I have a new contact that's going to let me sneak in a handfull into the tank when I get back.

I've got some news. I just got the Magpul B.A.D. Lever delivered today. I'll do the custom mod myself to make it work on my 15-22.

No more waiting!

Edited to add pics post install.

As mentioned in some of the earlier posts in this thread, there were a few tweaks that had to be made to the Magpul unit for it work on the 15-22, but these were relatively minor adjustments and created only a couple of small cosmetic imperfections (or what I call a "patina").

Just running the rifle dry, I can see there's gonna be a bit of training needed before I feel completely comfortable competing with this upgrade. But the initial impression is a GOOD one!

As you can see, especially in the third pic, the unit fits up and tight and away from the trigger. I may tweak it a bit more so that it sits less extended out of the guard, but that's not a big deal.

Gatillo, may I ask if you heated up the BAD lever prior to forming it?? I too want one real bad and based on your photo's it looks very minor on the bends... I would like to wait but I am having so much fun training with the little M&P I want to keep the training the same as my full size ARs with the BAD levers on them... I am looking with my finger for the BAD on my M&P 15/22 when shooting and reloading, yea, it's all about training, all about training......Thanks.

PS : I'd hate to cold form it and snap a ($28 with shipping) aluminum unit due to my Arnold muscles...yea right..

I just put the arm in one of my bigger vises and ran it down till it started bending the curve back straight. That is actually enough to make it work in the 15-22, although I gound a little of the side towards the front to it did not hit the inside front of the triggerguard just for grins.

Aceman, all the modifications were made cold using a vise, pliers and a little tap of a hammer. Granted, that may not be the "proper and acceptable" way due to creating some potential metal fatigue issues and the possibility of failure in the long term (I'll post any future problems should that be the case). However, it's worked well and the investment in the part and time spent modifying it was relatively minor when compared to the instant gratification felt having a working B.A.D lever on my rifle.

Frankly, I'd love to have bought Juvicator's lever and it's not my intention to hijack this thread, but I'm the practical kind and enough time has gone by that I felt it wouldn't be a "bad" idea to share this.

If you're going to try it, just be sure to take your time and make the bends in very small increments until it's right.

Also have a Magpul BAD.. Used no heat, tiny bends, sanded off some un-needed material that came in contact W/lower inside trigger well(when operated), "black paint" *I used automotive undercoating from a can,its VERY tough stuff.

The need is because some people like it.

The ability to close the bolt without moving any body part except the trigger finger. No need to move either hand. This can be important for fast-shooting competition.

That makes sense. So something completely unnecessary for me, and highly desirable for others.

That's true with many of the add-ons, and not just the 15-22.

I just had the Magpul B.A.D. Lever delivered today. Like you I found it does not fit right. By the look of your pics it appears you straightened the lever a bit. Anything else you did to make it right? Please let me know. I love the look of this piece and want to use it. I just don't want to ruin it or mark it up too much. Did you file, grind, bend it? All of the above? Thanks in advance for any advice. Brian

No filing or grinding necessary - just bend it in a vice.
(Although I did chew mine up a little because my vice jaws weren't too good...)

I bought my partner a small cooking gas blowtorch for Christmas (she's French and a wiz in the kitchen), but the only thing it's done so far is to help heat my BAD lever for bending!

Result:

NB - it needs to have a bit of space from the receiver so that the offside of the mag release doesn't push on it when releasing a mag, otherwise, it'll snap the bolt shut again!

VictorSix, there is no real need, the AR works and functions fine without this little device... Now, to speed reloads up and slam the bolt faster than original, this device rocks.. also if you have a jam, bad feed, failure to feed, or eject.. you can left hand slam back the charging handle, lock the bolt back with your TRIGGER finger... drop mag, rack the bolt, lock back with your TRIGGER finger, slam in a new mag, drop the bolt with YOUR TRIGGER finger faster than the stock method all with you trigger finger never leaving the trigger area.. can you say FAST..

Now this means nothing on a range shooting paper zombies... BUT in the field under real time fire, can mean life... Now, this unit doesn't improve your weapon by just installing it. You have to train with how to use it and use it well for it to benefit your ability to stop the threat.. I hope that helps with the reason...
