Default 50 Yards with American Eagle

This was at 50 yards with American Eagle using my Bipod sitting at a bench, rear support by elbow. If you take out the fliers, it's 1-1/4" x 2-1/2" group - 25 rounds total.

The Ammo doesn't seem too bad but it definitely has some fliers. So far 1 FTF from the Eagle in 250 rounds. I guess that's not terrible. No other issues.

I'm starting to see that if I hold the gun on the looser side I get better accuracy. I think that the gun sitting on the bipod and putting pressure on it is definitely detrimental.

I'm thinking the Norma Tac 22 I have will do better as my earlier tests seemed to indicate.

Still getting to learn the rifle, but I'm getting more familiar with the triggers characteristics and starting to get the feel of it.

Try a heavier bullet such as a 68 grain Sierra Match King and see how your rifle likes it. Ar's are a lot of fun to shoot.

Are you loading them in 22LR cases?

That might improve if you remove the forend end cap so you're not stressing the barrel. Benchrest, I only have my hand on the grip/trigger and the other under the butt (when using a bipod) for adjusting sight picture. Only thing I've shot for accuracy was CCI Tactical and it went 1 1/8" (nice round groups) for 10 shot groups at 50 meters off rolled up towels and a 4x scope. Need to play some more but my 15-22s are for Ruger Rimfire Challenge and usually wear C-mores with 12 or 16 minute dots...

1522 is about a 3-4moa rifle so your groups are not far off par from what I have seen.

Shooting more expensive ammo in my rifle is a waste. It just doesn't respond. To give you an idea... it shoots wolf match about the same as any cheap bulk pack HV. It will shott Aguila Match a bit better, but the rife is an enigma. A fun enigma.

Re: OP. Have had good results w/ AE .22 LR in my rifles and pistols. Function is always 100%. Accuracy varies as is common with .22 LR ammo in various firearms.

Your results at 50 yds. are cause for pause. I have fired my 15-22 extensively using a variety of ammunition brands (as much as availability and cost permit) firing a lot at 25 yds. on tactical targets and out to 50/100 yds. when such a opportunity presented itself. Firing from a solid prone position using good marksmanship practices, I have found that most .22 LR ammo will give a 2 inch group for 10 rounds fired with care. Errors in vertical dispersion are normally my own fault due to failure. Firing from bags, round groups of less than 2 inches are normal.

Looking at your picture a thought or two comes to mind. Give attention to how you are placing the rifle on the bags, this may help you address the vertical dispersion. Also, please consider that 25 rounds is a long string of fire over which to maintain concentration. Consider shooting five groups of five rounds each taking the average of those five groups.

I have not fired a 15-22 using a bi-pod. I have fired other rifles using various bi-pods. Some bi-pods will with good technique produce superlative on target results. Perhaps someone might be able to offer you some information relevant to the type of bi-pod you are using.

The Norma Tac-22 is a good round. Buy it when you can find it! A few weekends ago my youngest daughter came down for a visit. We happily fired 1,200 rounds in the 15-22... of which 1,000 were the Tac-22. Greasy ammo, but perfect function and excellent accuracy. And... it put a smile on the face of my daughter... that's what it's all about!

As to learning your trigger, it will take time, but you'll get there. Do not get in a hurry and pop off shots like you are squirting a water hose! Pay attention to each shot as though it is the only shot you will fire. Attend to proper position, etc. Eliminate as many variables as possible. Shoot at 25 yds. until you are satisfied you can produce nice round groups of say 10 rounds. Of course somewhere in the woodwork there lurks a descendent of Annie Oakley who can take a 15-22 and shoot little gnat sized groups at 25 yds. standing shooting backward with a handmirror. Leave 'em to it! You focus on learning the fundamentals. It'll serve you well.

Once you are competent at 25 yds., move on out to say 50 yds. Begin the above process again. It will be less difficult as you will have the basic fundamentals established. Once you are satisfied with your 50 yd. results... there's always 75 and 100 yds.!!!

Still getting to learn the rifle, but I'm getting more familiar with the triggers characteristics and starting to get the feel of it.

That is interesting. I have been using 8 MOA dots on my C-Mores for several years. My teammate in various rimfire events shoots 16 MOA dots on both his Ruger and 15-22. In fact he just won the Maryland State NSSF Rimfire Challenge by over 17 seconds just this month. The first NSSF/Ruger event he has ever shot. I decided he had a point before this event and ordered a couple of 12 MOA dots from Brownells because they were the only ones I saw that had bigger than 10 MOA listed in stock. Turned out they set me one and back ordered the second. I put the first 12 MOA on my Buckmark racegun and ended up liking it. Can't wait till the other one arrives to put on my 15-22 racegun.
