Default AR15/15-22 Picture thread

So a lot of people here have big AR15s as well as their 15-22s. I thought it would be a cool idea to have a picture thread that shows how people set up and use their 15-22s compared to their big brother AR15s. Do you use it for training? Keep costs down at the range? That kind of stuff.

If this is too far off topic for the 15-22 subforum, I apologize. I just thought a lot of people here would get a kick out of seeing the comparison between how people treat their 2 rifles (or more).

I suppose I will start.

I use my 15-22 as a way to keep costs down when going to the range. I wanted to keep it simple so that it has a more classic feel to it (although not retro), and helps me hone my basic shooting skills. Therefore, it is set up as a simple M4 style plinker where I only use irons.

The big one is a custom built AR15 that I use for more serious shooting time and home defense (should the need ever arise).

It is set up with:
Troy BUIS
Troy sling
Magpul RVG forward grip (modified)
Primary Arms Micro Red dot w/ 1/3 riser
Magpul ladder rail covers in Foliage Green
Magpul CTR Stock in Black
Magpul MOE pistol grip in Foliage Green
Magpul BAD lever
Noveske QD endplate

My 15-22 came first. Primary Arms M3, Magpul VG on the MOE edition.

The big AR is a few months old and is getting shot more right now. Daniel Defense 14.5 upper, Palmetto State lower with Magpul gear and Ergo grip. The handguard is getting swapped for rails soon, and I haven't decided on an optic yet.

The 15-22 will get a standard sight block eventually, and a standard 15-22 rear sight is on the way. It's becoming a low-cost trainer when I start shooting 3-gun and similar carbine courses this winter.

The .556 is also an M&P 15 Piston system in carbine length, wish it were a Middy...(next one). It has a Primary Arms M4 clone, OD furniture including a Magpul AFG2 and MBUS sights and Stark integrated grip/trigger guard/QD swivel connector, Midwest Industries quad rail with Ergo ladder rail covers, a UTG LED Cre mounted light, UTG butt-stock pad, CAA cheek rest, BCM gunfighter Mod #4 charging handle...The new M&P 15-22 is MUCH lighter, so hardly a comparison, but I would like it to be a economical training tool...with a tacticool factor. It sports a Bushnell TRS-25 red dot Troy Battle rail covers, its an MOE edition in FDE (so not much more to add to it). I did add an Insight Tech X-2 led mounted light to the bottom rail.

My Colt 6920 with my M&P15-22

The Colt has,

Magpul CTR stock
Magpul MOE grip
BCM Gunfighter Mod 4 (Medium) charging handle
Magpul rear MBUS
Aimpoint PRO
Magpul magazines
Tango down QD VFG
Troy Industries carbine 7" handguards
ERGO rail covers
Viking Tactics light mount with Surefire G2
Viking Tactics 2 point padded sling

The 15-22 has,

Magpul MOE grip
Magpul rear MBUS
UTG folding VFG
Streamlight TLR-1 weapon light

More to come for the M&P15-22 as I'm going to set it up identically to the Colt 6920.

Only pic with them together is the day I brought home the .22. I got it afterwards, to shoot for cheaper...

Bushmaster AR is set up with a Green Dot/Red Laser for fast target acquisitions and usable iron sights.

AR15/15-22 Picture thread-22-007-jpg

AR15/15-22 Picture thread-done-001-jpg

They are both done in my book I do not get fancy with flashlights and laser beams. I might get the SSAR Stock for Christmas just to play with, I would not leave it on long term.

Here is my pair before I got the A2 front sight for my 15-22 and switched it over to a carbine-length MOE handguard. Aside from the optics, they are now almost identical in setup. If I can swing a Trijicon 1-4x, I'll move the Millett DMS over to the 15-22.

It's Perm. Pinned. Thats ok cause I do not plan on changing it and it would give me an excuse to buy another upper if I want to change the Battlecomp.

Good luck on getting a registered sbr in Kali.

now im starting to understand black rifle disease, especially when you can just buy a upper and have it shipped to your doorstep in 2-3 days, or build your own custom. i understand bcm uppers are 1x7, how do they shoot with 55gr.

1x7 shoots great with 55gr (that's the twist rate you'll find standard in Colt, BCM, LMT, DD, Noveske). That's what I run in my 16" BCM midlength for range ammo.

A little cross posting from the 15-22 picture thread:

I assembled my AR15 in 2009 and got the 15-22 to practice cheaply. I like simplicity and cross utilization so I decided that since I got a 15-22 instead of a 10-22 due to the former handing like an AR15, I decided to modify mine to look like my BCM Midlength AR15.

Top rifle AR15:
Denny's Guns lower receiver
DPMS lower parts with RRA fire control group
Magpul MOE grip and trigger guard
Magpul ACS stock
BCM receiver extension, standard buffer & spring
Magpul ASAP endplate (changed from IKH SLAP in pic)
BCM 16" midlength standard upper receiver and BCG
Magpul MOE midlength handguards
Magpul MOE Vertical Grip
Matech 600M backup sight

Bottom rifle is my 15-22:
Magpul ACS stock
Magpul MOE pistol grip
Tacticool22 handguard adapter
AR15 barrel nut assembly
AR15 handguard cap
Trueshot Technologies A2 front sight
Magpul MOE midlength handguards
Magpul MOE Vertical Grip
Primary Arms M4 Multi Reticule Red Dot
Rear sling pigtail held on by paracord for use with my Emdom/MM Gunslinger sling

My bushmaster came first but the cost of 223 ammo led to the purchase of an M&P15-22.

M&P-15-22...
Not complete, need to mimic the Bushmaster
BSA red dot
Yankee hill risers
CTR stock
Houge Grip
Magpul BUS rear
