Default newbie questions on mounting scope

I just got a ncstar 2-6x scope, and mounted it, but have never done this before so would appreciate any comments on what i have done from anyone with more experience than my none...

1. basics, take off sights. don't see how i can use scope with sights. I did purchase 2 sets of rings, r13 and r23, one is on 1" riser. Set I am using is not 'rised', and can't use sights with scope. correct?

2. how do i know how far from my eye to mount the scope? I can see clearly where i have mounted them. But if I move my head fore and aft, I see less of the whole circle.

3. in the chintzy chinese english 1 page instruction book, it talks about loosening variable optic. I don't see how to loosen, but I can turn eyepiece. I am assuming this is like diopter on eyepiece on binocs, and i don't see how to tighten or loosen, just turn. I do have the cross hairs focused. Am i looking for those to be in focus or my object?

4. I don't have a real bench setup, how do I know that my crosshairs are really perpindic/parallel 'squared' up. I can align them on a shelf or counter top, but I of course can rotate rifle slightly to make adjustment.

5. instruction booklet talks about right hand adjustment, but in fact, this is on the left side?

6. elevation and angle adjustments are not marked for up and right? did you mark yours?
thanks.

1. Correct, I used to keep my front sight on though because I thought it looked cooler with it on and it didn't mess up my vision.

2.You mounted it in the correct spot it should say the correct eye relief in the manual (usually around 3"). When you move your head it is normal for the circle to get smaller.

3.I believe you are talking about the objective (end closest to the end of the barrel) and if you are it should have yards on in like 10yds,20yds,50yds, etc. You adjust that to the distance you are shooting and both the crosshairs and the object should be clear.

4.Just look into the scope with it mounted on your rifle and see if it is straight, doesn't have to be perfect.

5. Rotate it

6.My elevation turrets came marked. If yours aren't then just adjust them and see where the bullet goes.
