Looking for an affordable bi pod
Hey guys,
Im new to the forum but have been reading for a long time. I am looking for a bipod for my 15-22. I was looking at harris but they are really expensive. I was wondering if there was cheaper but almost as good quailty that fits the rail system. I have been looking around but I honestly dont have much experience with bipods. Any help would be appreciated.

I realize that the Harris is expensive, but I have had one for almost 30 years, used it on everything from Contender pistols, to 460 Weatherby and it has held up great. Has not loosened, or had any other problems.
Bite the bullet, so to speak, and buy a Harris and it should last a life time.

I got a $20 gift card for Amazon from my job for some silly thing, and found
this little doo-hickey.
Was favorably impressed with its solidity. Especially for the price.
It even came with a mini-Picatinny rail that screwed onto my Marlin 795's
front sling swivel, so I can quickly swap between it and my 15-22.
For $20, it works well.
At least with my 10 round mags, the 25's don't play nice with it...

I recently bought a Harris S-BRM for $89 with $10 discount at Midway, and the non swivel models go for around $65. Unlike optics, bipods can be to swapped to different firearms and ready to go in seconds. I agree with Photog that as long as you're buying one you might as well spend a very $mall difference more for a bipod that can be reliably used on a variety of guns.

I bought a UTG from cheaperthandirt.com, I bought the one with the highest centerline height, good for shooting from the prone position, paid $30 for it and love it. Even come with a swivel stud adapter.

Can someone please tell me the difference between a swivel model and a non swivel model? How much difference in movement are we talking about? I have no experience with bipods other hearing about harris from a friend. Thanks for the replies and future posts

Here's the S =(swivel model)-BRM on my .308. The swivel allows you to swivel (adjust for cant) to make the rifle level when on uneven ground or a surface that isn't level. There's a lot of movement available (pic below all the way over) but usually it's used for minor adjustment. If you get a swivel I would recommend the Alpha-Bravo lever. It allows for real quick and tight adjustment that you just can't do with the finger knob.

I've got a harris 1A2 ultralight bipod.....like new condition....I don't know where it came from, or what it cost me....adjustable legs...at least 12 inches at it it's shortest position, it's too high for anything i'm shooting now.......if you can use it let me know......pay for shipping, or send me a prepaid self addressed shipping package of some sort, it's yours.

I haven't had it very long, but it is good quality. I couldnt be happier with it. Mounts solid, doesn't budge while shooting. Recommend it to anyone.

Which NC Star model did you get? And also, are you able to use it with the 25 round mags? I've never noticed anyone ever mentioning the magic height required for a bipod to keep the 25-round magazines off the ground / bench. Anyone care to share?

I bought the UTG Tactical OP Bipod - SWAT/Combat Profile Adjustable Height and it does clear a 25 round mag when extended and shooting level or a few degrees of up angle.

WALMART
Walmart specializes in 15/22 accesories and scopes, and ammo.
Bi-pods are very reasonable.

Another vote for Harris. I have the HBL(9-13") model without swivel or leg notches. It's my favorite bi-pod on the market. I use it on a few different rifles I have. I mounted it on a CAA adapter.
collapsed-butt stock hovers, resting on mag in pic but not when shooting flat or slightly upward.
half way-butt stock touches the ground and mag clears.
fully extended- goofy looking, but it works well.

If you like shooting your 15-22 now, you're gonna love it suppressed. My next project for the 15-22 is SBR. I've never spent so much money saving money shooting .22s

My birthday is the 23 which is coming up this week and I was thinking about buying a bipod with some of the bday money I will be getting. Anyone know what size bipod will work best with 25 round mags? And that are cheap?

A 6-9 adjustable will just clear the 25 round magazine so if all you'll be doing is bench shooting that should work as it provides a couple of degrees of upward mobility as well. If you need more than that you'll need the taller bipod.
Check the other recent thread on the subject as I recall there's more information about heights there as well.

Question - I didn't read the whole thread but- what would you use as a good bipod on a rifle with a pic rail etc. - but 5.56 .. Say I am building a SPR (Special Purpose Rifle) , Mk 12 etc. or even a SEAL Recon Rifle (Recce rifle) - and I want to add a good bipod (I mean NcStar thru Harris could be the options) ... I am not seeing too many rail-connected options, they seem to be sling stud. But who/how has a sling stud on a quad rail system, right?
Anyway, thx for he info.

The Ncstar I got came with 3 different adaptors. I have mine on the rail system and it appears really sturdy. Even did a few infantry movement drills with it to check. Im liking it but the model I have has the manual leg locks which I am not to happy with

There are several options for sling stud to rail adaptors made by Larue, GG&G and others for the Harris style bipod. EMA Tactical offers a nice side mounted design which allows me to keep my vfg towards the end of the rail. The Vltor ModPod is another example.

Haven't you heard? It's more aerodynamic that way, and makes the bullets go faster.

My 2 cents...
Harris makes awesome bipods (I have one), but another option, if you haven't seen one, is the "Grip-Pod". It's a forward grip with a spring loaded bipod inside. I like mine a lot. It's a little bigger than the average forward grip, but great for larger hands. Best part is you have a bipod with you all the time without taking up more space on the gun. Here is a link to an eBay listing for the military model GPS-02 (best price I have found, just bought my 2nd one here)....

took my rifle to the range. tested out the blackdog 50 round drum and it worked awesome. Also set up my bipod and zeroed my sights in. at 50 yds was hitting a group the size of a quarter. the only down side is that one of the bipod legs got stuck but i was able to get back to normal. I love being able to put almost 500 rounds down range at the fraction of firing .223/.556. I will post some pics of my rifle when Im not working lots of overtime

Also you may want to purchase a 10 round shorty magazine, it helps if you are trying to zero your optics. The 25 round sticks out so far your bipod becomes useless... I have that $20 dollar one from Amazon and it's great until I tried to zero with the 25 mag. Hope it helps.

I got my red dot zeroed fine with out the 10 round shorty. All i did was extend the bipod and pulled up one of the stools the range had. I got the 7" to 12" bipod so there was plenty of clearance for the magazines.

I have two-one on my AR 556 Nato 30 rnd mags one for my 1522 22 LR 35 Rnd Mags. Both work fine thoughyou may have to move the bipod back to get clearance.

I put a rail adapter for a Harris bipod on mine. All my other rifles are equipped for the Harris, so it seemed logical just to use the same one on my 15-22.

Another vote for the utg op bipod. I use harris on all of my other guns and
The op is just perfect for the 1522 considering you dont have to purchase a rail adapter it works out of the box. They can be had for around 25 on amazon too. If you like the harris you will like the op functionally they are about 95% identical.

Same. Kind of. I bought a cheapo CAA plastic adapter for the one Harris I use on multiple rifles. It has a push button so you don't need to have allen wrenches handy to remove it. It locks up pretty tight on these out of spec rails we all have.

Have the same one, picked up on cheaper than dirt for $20 and it seems sturdy. only had it out a couple times. seems to be good quality, esp since only being on a .22, and with the stock out it will clear the 25rd mag

^I've used one of their bipods before on a mosin nagant that had the ATI stock on it, was the model that uses the swivel stud. I will say that it held up well, over 250 rounds with that beast and the bipod never gave me any trouble, I doubt a million rounds through a 22 would be as abusive as that 7.62x54 was. I think I may just grab one of those for my 15-22, been looking for a bipod, since I like shooting from a bench.
In fact, if you have a Prime account, here's the same one for $25 shipped
