Default charging handle catch

Gentlemen, while cleaning out my 15-22 recently I noticed that when the bolt is locked back I cannot return the charging handle fully forwards so that it catches on the reciever.

Is this how 15-22s are meant to behave or is this due to some problem? For example, I checked to make sure the BCG was fully seated forwards in the upper and it seemed fine.

No, your charging handle can slide back in and LATCH up with/out your bolt being pushed forward, when pulled all the way back and locked up by either the MAGAZINE or the BOLT LATCH on the left side. You appear to have an issue here, take it out and check why.

Ok, maybe something happened when I dismantled and reassembled the BCG, I'll have a look tomorrow.

Thanks.

I think you put the charging handle in front of the bolt nob instead of ON the bolt nob, it has to be ON it so it can grab it and pull it back.. No biggie, it happens..

I inspected it again, what was happening was that the front edge of the charging handle was getting caught against the flange on the front of the rod on the bcg.

You were right, this was caused by me inserting the BCG with the handle a tiny bit far forwards so that it didn't completely sit on the raised bit where the nub coming out of it. I guess ill pay more attention in the future when I field strip.

Thanks again.
