Default M&P AR15-22 range results

Hi all, well I had the AR15-22 out to the range this morning with mixed results. Good thing-accuracy, it will shoot nice little groups even with the open sights and the red dot. Bad thing-only feeds and functions with one brand of ammo so far. I only took three brands of ammo today, Federal American Eagle copper-plated high velocity 38gr hollow point, Winchester Expert 36gr non plated hollow point and the always troublesome Remington Golden bullet, plated hollow points. It fed and functioned flawlessly with the Federal, a lot of fail to feed with the Winchester, jams on the feed ramp and a dismal failure with the Remington as expected (this **** dont work well in anything). Maybe I have one that needs a break in period. I am going to polish up the feed ramp and fluff and buff the bolt and such. As expected the M10-7 that I picked up last Monday worked as expected, very well and POA impact only a tad to the left.

Vulcan Bob,
Sorry to hear that you had such poor results with two brands of ammo. I use Remington Golden bullets, the brass plated hollow points, in my Ciener and Jarvis 1911 conversion units as well as my Advantage Arms Glock conversioin unit. I get the occasional ignition failure (ca 2 to 4 per 525 round box) but otherwise they perform well for me. Yesterday I shot 300 rounds out of my Ciener 1911 conversion unit without a single ignition failure.
Tactical Solutions specifically warns agains using Remington GHolden in their 22 cal AR-15 upper. I guess that was due to the buildup of crud from firing this ammo.

Hey Vulcan Bob hope you don’t mind me chiming in here I too got out to the range yesterday and had very good luck. First I was using Federal high-velocity 36 grain hollow points and CCI Mini-Mag high-velocity 36 grain ammo both rated at 1260 FPS. Everyone I have talked to has told me to use the high velocity don’t ask me why. Well my first magazine of Federals was flawless the second using the Mini-Mag produced two failures to feed. The first never came completely out of the magazine and the rim was stuck in the magazine the cartridge was standing straight up and down against the feed ramp and was struck on the side about a 1/4” up on the cartridge this one I had to remove the magazine and pry it out of the end of the magazine. The second failure did just about the same but the cartridge was completely out of the magazine and fell out after pulling the bolt back. Ok at this point I am not happy and wondering what happened so as I am reloading the one and only magazine I have I remember when I loaded the last magazine one round was pointing down slightly in the magazine not level or pointed up. On the advice of one of the members here I am loading the magazine on round at a time not just pulling the spring down and filling up the magazine. Then the light went off this thing is finicky with the way the magazine is loaded so from there on I loaded the magazine by adding one cartridge then letting go of the spring and getting it to sit level or even with a slight upward stance. Some times you have to force the round to seat all the way into the magazine to get all things lined up. At the end of every reload I would force the spring upward to somewhat pack the cartridges. If it is correct you can see that they criss cross a little and the top one stands proud. I think I shot at least 300 rounds with out one failure using both brands I did find the CCI was a little more trouble to get every thing lined up in the magazine but they all worked with out a problem. I also found the federals to be a little more consistent than the CCI.

Now having said all that this the AR15-22 is about as much fun as you can have the 22lr is cheep and it will eat it as fast as you can load the magazines I shot until I had a blister on my thumb from holding down the spring on the magazine. The range I used was only 50 yards long and I had nice groups using just the iron sites that came on it stock. I have a few more magazines on order and can’t wait to get out try it all over again.

O Ya Bob tell us more about the red dot you are using I want one!

Thanks for the info fellas! I was very careful loading the mag one round at a time. Maybe I need to get mag loading karma or it just needs to be shot a bit to break in. KiaTia, the red dot Im useing is a el cheapo BSA- PMRGS, it has the stick up tv screen lens that the dot is projected onto. It has a very low profile and you can see through it to use your iron sights and it co-witness perfectly with the iron sight's for me. If it works out as dureability is concerned Im happy if not it was a good tweener to see if the rifle works out. As I get older my eyesight is not so hot so Im trying out the red dots for some help! Here's a coulpa pic's of it. Anyhow, I just polished up the feed ramp, cleaned the bore and scrubbed and polished the chamber a bit. My wife is going in for surgery and when I can get out to the range again I'll give it another go with some diferent ammo and such.

Bob got out again yesterday and threw another 300 rounds at it and no failures at all we used the
Federals. My 8 year old son was hitting a 6" target very constant at 15 yards and I was trying to dial things in at 75 yards. I am not really sure what distance the 22lr is constant at any thoughts? At what distance should you sight things in at???

Here is a photo at 75 yards after making a couple of adustments using just the stock iron sights:

Here is the results from my 8 year old son first time shooting at 15 yards:
