Took my new MP-15-22 to the range and I love it but, these old eyes need help as the sights are fuzzy. I have an old 4X weaver scope but will have to buy rings. Do you guys think this will work ok or should I go with a red dot. I would appreciate any input. Thanks

What type of shooting do you plan on doing? If it's going to be mostly indoors or at 50 and less red dot would be perfect... But if you're doing a lot of outdoor shooting and like to shoot at a little longer distances then you're probably better off with 3-9x scope.

I see you mention tired eyes, mine too. I replaced my red dots because I found that much of anything over 25 yrds was just too hard to distinguish. I had one 2x red dot which was better then the 1x for me. but still, the dot was just too big.

I am really liking my UTG (Leapers) scopes I have. It's nice to shoot at 3 or 4x and then zoom in to actually see the holes in the target, saves a lot of walking when sighting in.

Most of the UTG scopes are AO scopes, which is extremely nice, and the optics are as good to me, as my Nikon on my Deer rifle.

Of course it will work. You'll either need tall rings or low rings + riser.

Most all the shooting I do is off hand bouncing around soda cans and other junk, so a 1x red dot with unlimited field of view is ideal. For aging eyes, the 1x red dot can be a real pleasure. Unlike iron sights, with a 1x red dot all the shooter does is focus down range at the target. If you're sitting at a bench trying to get small groups on a piece of paper, then a magnified optic with crosshairs is better suited regardless if it is 25yds or 100+yds.

I would just keep the scope you have, and buy some rings. If you really want to spend money on the rifle, get a new scope, such as the Nikon 3-9x40 Prostaff BDC-150, or if you want a more tactical looking scope, the Nikon 3-7x32 P-22. The ProStaff is a bit less expensive, and still has the return-to-zero turrets, and I haven't been able to find th P-22 available ANYWHERE.

Take a look at the Millet SP-1 red dot sight for short range shooting. It is 1 inch diameter with a 3 moa dot. I had given up shooting , could no longer see sights either, when I spotted a ruger 22 semi-auto pistol in dealer's display. Had never seen that before, he said just put the dot on what you want to hit and squeeze the trigger. Boy was he right , no focus on three different things at once ... I love it.
Bought a Tasco Pro- point, 30 mm with a 5 moa dot...Hate it. Too bulky and dot too big. trade it for another Millet SP-1 in a New York second.
Long range shooting will require a scope and I dont have any first hand experience with scoped handguns but I'm sure some of the other members can advise on that.

Go with a larger 30 mm tube it really makes a difference to ole eyes..
I did a Leapers 1 x 4 w/ quick release rings from O Planet. Pleased with it.

looks pretty nice. have the 4x32 on a 10/22. great glass for a .22. however, the p-22 is still a little long for my liking on my 15-22

I have the same question. My Club is outdoors and won't be shooting longer then 100 yards. But will be doing a lot in between 25-100 for some tactical events we have, etc. I'd like to keep the tacticool look and have about $200 to spend. What do you guys recommend. This is my first rifle so all the help in the world is appreciated. I've never shot through a scope before. Today was my first time shooting the gun and was able to put most my shots on a small steel plate at 50 yards.

I have the Vortex Strikefire red/green dot on my MOE, and I found that I can hardly use the green at the indoor range I shoot at.

For kicks I have been researching the smaller Vortex Sparc, and also the PA Microdot.

I went with the true co-witness, and the guy I spoke with said I could either go that way or with the 1/3 with my Magpul MBUS Gen II sights.

This was also 1/2 price of the Sparc, and I was almost going to pick that up after work today from an AR15 shop in my town where I got the Strikefire with, but I decided to go ahead and try the PA since a lot on here rave about it, and the YouTube reviews look good too.

Wish it had flip up caps instead of the bikini, but the guy I talked to said not enough material on the tube to do that.

I also find the flip up caps on my Strikefire to be very hard to close.

+1 on the Vortex SPARC.

I'm running a SPARC and VMX3 3x magnifier (on swing mount) over MBUS2's on my 15-22. Very nice combo.

However, I was spoiled by looking through a 1.5x Trij ACOG a few months back, and if I ever had the money...

I sent the PA guy an email about that on their Gen2 microdot, and it's still not addressed at Gen 8.

I'm changing away from microdots as soon as I have the cash.

I doubt that would be addressed. Primary Arms MicroDot is styled after the Aimpoint Micro. The idea is to have a very compact and lightweight optic. Neither the Aimpoint Micro nor PA MicroDot will accommodate flip caps. Larger heavier designs will accommodate flip caps, and Primary Arms sell them styled after Aimpoint.

Just ordered the J point (JP Enterprises) set up from Brownels, hope to have it on one of my K frames next week. Will let you guys know how it works after a few hundred rounds.

I have a holographic sight on one, a set of peeps on one, a 4x Bushnell one, a 3x9 on one, standard iron sights on one, a 6x-18x on one, and a 24x target scope on my Anschutz....

It depends on what you want to do! If you just want to plink cans and balloons the holographic and red dots are fun. For target shooting at 50 feet, the 24x lets me see my heartbeat as I squeeze the trigger.

I think it's hard to beat the Leupold 2-7x Rimfire scope for a general purpose rimfire optic. I wish they'd offer a rimfire version of the 1-4x that I favor for shorter range rifles. The Leupold at 2x offers a very wide field of view, and at higher magnification offers all the precision most run-of-the-mill .22s can take any advantage of. I just sighted in this scope on my 10/22, and haven't yet seen any reason to twist the magnification past two power, although a little more will be nice for head shots on squirrels &tc.

All they need is an additional 1/4-inch of tube at each end, but whatever.
