New Grip?
Hi,
Is it easy to replace the "stock" grip on the 15-22? I found a nice Hogue rubber grip Id like to put on it.
Is there a write-up on how to do it, or is it easy enough to do.
thanks

I also have a hogue in OD green that I got from a forum member. Took all of 5 minutes to install. Very easy. And I'm pleased with the fit and feel.

+1 on the Hogue grips! I put the Hogue finger-grooved grip on my 15-22 and it feels much better than the stock grip. Just be careful of the two springs in the stock grip and don't lose them. If you watch the video link that Majorlk mentioned above, you shouldn't have any problem installing your new one.

I put the Hogue grip on my 15-22 and have Hogue grips on my Sig 229R pistol and on my S&W 629 revolver. I really like Hogue products and do think thing they do a great job for a family business.
I probably would have had a problem with installing the grip on my 15-22 if I had not checked the information on this forum about being careful of the springs. Always good information and people willing to help on this forum concerning S&W products.

+1 on the Hogue...I changed the grip as soon as I took the gun out of the box....and wifey and I love the grip.
+1 on the U-tube video. Just go slow, lift the stock handle off slow and expect both springs to be there waiting on you.
what has not been mentioned is this....
you will probably need an extended arm allen wrench, If I remember correctly, it is 3/16" (?) .
I went to Harbor Freight and purchased a set for about $9. Once you have this, you will be ready to make the change.
Simple job....!!!

I had to go to Lowe's to buy a longer allen wrench set.
I think it is 3/16", and it is loooooooooooooooong
Two springs on the 15-22, and I think there was only one spring on my 5.56 AR15 when I did it.
It took a screw though, not an allen head bolt like the 15-22.

Yes, it is 3/16" and the second spring on the AR is held in place by the plate on the end of the lower.

Have the hogue on my 15-22 but went with ergo tact grip for the 5.56. Hogue needs more material for the webbing between thumb and index finger. Stupid fat hands. Hogue is certainly great replacement of OEM grip though

I took the the stock Hogue grip off my PC model and replaced it with an Ergo, which I found I liked so much I put an Ergo on my 3-gun AR when I built it.

Just be careful and don't overtighten the screw, remember the thread is polymer, not metal.
