Leaving magazines fully loaded?
How many leave magazines fully load all the time? Reason I ask is I kind of think their is a chance it will weaken the spring and make it lose tension.

Leaving "Clips" in
Funny, my rifle doesn't have any "clips", but I don't leave the "magazines" full all the time. I am in the habit of cleaning them after I use them. I don't think leaving them loaded would present a problem however

Leaving magazines loaded has zero effect upon the springs. It is the constant flexing cause by loading and shooting that wears springs out.
I have something over 50 magazines in my vault and the only time they are empty is when I have just emptied them shooting and haven't had time to reload them. Some of them have been loaded for three of four years between shooting.
And yes, the correct term is magazine. A clip is something that is used to charge a magazine. An M1 Garand uses a clip, so does a BroomHandle Mauser. Just about everything else uses a magazine. The two terms are not synonymous.

I think movies and tv got people just calling everything clips. Aren't clips also top fed for the most part?

I don't know what you mean; pretty much everything feeds from the top except single shots.
If you mean clips are inserted in to a magazine or action from the top, yes, that is correct.

I talked to a buddy of mine about this before. He's in the military and he says he has been handed magazines that have been stored for decades fully loaded and has run them through with zero problems. Like Majorlk said, its the actual flexing in the spring as it is being loaded and as it is being emptied that will wear the springs out, not staying in one constant position for any period of time. I personally have two magazines that I leave loaded at all times for my HD weapon, and all other magazines remain unloaded unless I am at the range. I'm not too worried because I don't shoot "enough" to really be concerned about the springs wearing out anytime soon, I have a set of magazines that are dedicated to being used for HD so they won't wear out, and magazines are cheap enough to replace or replace the springs when they do wear out.

Magazine is on the left, "clip" is on the right, just for clarification for all parties confused on the subject.

I'm guessing you go around correcting people's English too. Which is no less annoying.

It's annoying to have terminology corrected? That's the same attitude that has let the news media categorize any semi-automatic rifle as an assault weapon - no one bothered to correct them.
No apology for correcting incorrect information or terminology from me.

Oh, it's for the news media's benefit. Ok, I leave all of my clips loaded for all my assault Weapons and all my other Weapons. And i sure am not keeping them for zombies, they are for shooting some oxygen thief who tries to harm me or my family.
i seldom keep more than 100 "clips" loaded at any one time for my Assault Weapons or other Weapons. PS, I also don't do discreet carry, I carry concealed.
How's my PC score?
PS: No zombies were injured in the making of this post nor will I ever injure or kill any with any of my Weapons. if this post dropped my PC score that is good. I am trying to get it down to an F-

Your last sentence omitted a period at the end. This is the kind of careless incompetence that makes the media think all gun owners are illiterate hilljacks.
That statement makes as much sense as implying that confusing a clip and a magazine has anything to do with the perceptions on semi-automatic weapons.
IMHO you were simply trying to build yourself up by tearing someone else down with a cheap, unneeded and snarky shot.
I have mags I've left loaded all but a few hours out of the past decade. They function fine. As has already been said, it's mags that are cycled a lot that will end up with weak springs.

Geez, we ought to just sticky the original question. To get back to it, NO, leaving your mags loaded won't hurt them (unless they are cheap, ****** mags and the pressure makes the feed lips deform). It's loading and unloading them that exercises and puts wear on the spring, not remaining under compression.
Yes, I leave a large number of mine loaded. I can grab them and go, no wasting time loading them at the range. And of course, the zombies ain't gonna wait for you to load mags.
I've shot GI .45 mags that had been loaded for 40 years. They functioned just fine.

During my own informal research (reading all I could find plus talking to metalurgist, engineers and other credible folks whose opinion and expertise I trust), a quality spring will not lose its tension other than by compressing/de-compressing or extending beyond design limits; ie, over compress or over extend, etc.
IMO, if you have any concerns about leaving mags loaded, just back off 2 rounds (especially in hi-cap mags) and stop worrying.

Roger that!
I've suggested it on a number of boards a number of times, unfortunately with zero effect.
