Well, today I get to post a resonse to my original thread. I'm the proud owner of both my 15-22 and my new M&P15OR. I picked it up last night after a lot of research in Smith models as well as other brands (DPMS, Rock River, Bushmaster,Colt...).

I really wanted to keep it in the family and I'm glad I did. My 15-22 has been great and I expect nothing less from my OR. I've added folding sights so far and will get a PA optic soon enough. Instead of buying that right out of the gates, I opted for a case of ammo.

4 months ago, all I had was a home defense pistol. This is going to add up quick...

Bushmaster A3 a looong time ago. Got the 15/22 as a repalcement for a Walther P22 that broke the slide after 6yrs and 50K+ rounds. P22 were back ordered forever and was offered a trade for another gun.

RRA .223, then a Beowulf .50 on a RRA lower, and my newest gun- the 15-22 which I can actually shoot at my local indoor range.

My 15-22 came first. After that, I've spent over a year deciding on what to get in the 5.56x45 / .223 Rem and I ended up doing TWO things.

The first was to re-work my current 7mm T/C-U (circa 1981) to a 23" Stainless Steel barrel, 3-9X42mm scope, and composite butt-stock and forend. I actually shot it for the first time on Saturday and being this is my first real scoped rifle, I know I have a long way to go but the recoil on .223 was not bad for a single shot so I can only imagine my SECOND firearm in .223, which I will pickup tomorrow, a Colt LE6920CMP-B (Black MOE). I'll post pictures of it this week but here's my current two long arm:

and just picked it up today (3/13/12):

How does the Beowulf .50 shoot? Was it worth buying?

I just picked up our 2nd MP15-22 yesterday in Camo at S&W retail store.. unbelievable guns to play with and quite franklly, I believe that little 22lr could do some serious damage should I ever use it for SD... I know at 50 yards, I'm hitting the bullseye rapid firing. We brought 3 of my full AR 15's - 223 and my 15-22 to the range sunday, let's just say, I shot about 200 rds through the 22 and about 100 through the other AR's... if my wife was with me, we can add 500 rounds to the 22lr..

Congrats on the purchase, but aren't you going to cook that front sight sitting on top of the gas block?

Probably.

Actually, I've already moved the MBUS to my 15-22 and moved my 15-22 irons to the OR. After shooting with sights, I remembered how much fun it was. I'm going to keep the OR with the irons for now and take my time shopping for a scope.

However, I didn't figure out the melting thing on my own. I was fortunate enough to have someone point it out in the 15 sub forum also.

Get some Troy folding sights some day for that rifle
I own iron sights from them and they're really nice & solid, no worries. Pricey so get a coupon code/sale price.

I got the AR15-22 PC first to replace another gun I use in SC and RR competition. Liked how it felt so decided to build an AR for 3-gun competition. Had some parts in hand from a prize table pick from the RR world match, Ergo F93 stock and pistol grip and 2 PMags. So ordered a Stag Arms 3-Gun upper, bought a forged assembled lower wo/stock and added a Geissle Super 3-Gun trigger and one more PMag. Just waiting to get all the parts to put it together and season its 18" barrel. It will look very similar to my AR15-22. Now I have a lot of "junk" parts for it like Ergo rail covers and vertical front grip, UTG bipod, tactical rail light, single point sling, rail mounted laser. Got lots of scopes including 1.5-4.5x32, 1-6x24, and 4-14x44 tactical scopes all mounted on QR mounts. But I only put on stuff when I need to use that stuff.

Finally got around to taking pictures.

Del-ton mid length 16" barrel upper, MOE handguard, CTR stock, Tango Down battlegrip, LW-15 lower, P-mag (blocked to 10 rounds) Matech rear sight.

Current plan is to change the front sight post to a fiber optic or tritium post, get a more aggressive looking flash hider, and possibly switch out the grip for an MOE or MIAD grip and to add an AFG2. Love it, great to shoot, reasonably accurate with a bad shot like me behind the trigger, enjoy it so much I might sell the 15-22 since it just doesn't cut it anymore(I kid, I kid)

I finally got the Aimpoint, and now I'd say this one is complete. Got some outdoor range time last weekend to dial it in, and really happy with the groups...it's definitely more accurate than I am!

Got my 15-22 right after Christmas, got an Oly K16 from my brother last weekend. Hope to get out and shoot it some tomorrow. Everyday life and winds of 40-60 MPH have prevented so far.

Here's my three amigos... I started first with the AR15, purchased one built for me, then I build one from scratch, then fell in love with the M&P 15/22 and you guys know the rest.. I'd have to say if I were casted in the series "Walking Dead" it would been a very shot series. All Zombies dead... yea, right..... Enjoy..

I've owned a Ruger Mini-14 (SS) since '09 and replaced the wooden furniture with a Tapco stock and handguard.

I just shook hands yesterday on a deal for a '72 vintage Colt AR15 SP-1 in very, very good condition...will be picking it up next week

The wife thinks that AR's look like killing machines and didn't want me to get one, so I bought a Ruger mini-14 and an ATI stock that I purchased directly from Ruger (it has a Ruger logo on it, I believe). Bought about half a dozen 20 round magazines to go with it.

Wow, I had no idea you could use clips in a Mini-14. Are they en-bloc or stripper clips?

I got lucky and was able to get the M & P 15 first, the store had just received it that morning. Later after looking at S &W site I found the M & P 15-22 I wanted and called the family owned store I bought the 15 from and asked them to order that model and was told she just got off the phone and the exact model was due in two days from now so I bought it lol.

Curious; Why didn't you just get a .22lr conversion kit?

Just guessing, but for me it was:
Convenience of having two rifles
Ease of use (no swapping BCG)
Correct twist rate for accuracy
No rimfire/blowback crud in the FCG
Functioning last round hold open/bolt release
etc.

Yep...this misnomer has pervaded the gun culture for years (with a lot of help from television and Hollywood.) I was at a gun show last weekend and as soon as I walked through the door I saw a huge bannered table advertising "Cheap Clips." When Iwalked over to see, all I saw were cheap magazines...had to laugh.

Have you seen the latest Glock sites? They're all the rage!

Nah, your no dumbass. It's just been one of those popular culture brainwashing things. I know the most intelligent gunowners that should know better (they actually own rifles with both systems!) that say the same thing all the time.

I think it was Cuba Gooding, Jr. that started it back in the day in the movie, The Boys in the Hood.

Actually, stripper clips are used to fill Mini14 magazines, but you already know that.

yep all of the above and I always have believed a designed part works better in 99% of the time with a few exceptions to the rule.

I picked me up a new PSA AR-15 16" Dissipator for $700, as I got bored waiting for a new firing pin (my 15-22 broke in 1/2)from S&W :

- Dissipator M4 flat top upper
- 16in mid length gas system
- Premium PSA M16 BCG
- Chrome lined 1:7 with A2 Flash Hider
- hp/mp
- Lower PSA with PSA hardware
- JP Trigger springs
- Black MOE handguard
- MOE pistol grip
- PSA M4 Stock
- PSA carry handle
- 2 (30) rnd magazines

And this is how I broke it in:

Zombie deer never had a chance...

You do. You do need both Which S&W? The 'sport' goes on sale around here for $600 something so that could you leave you with some in the wallet.

Nice! I'm sure that would have freaked me out if I were a few lanes away haha. Palmetto is so awesome. Great value with their stuff. I'm going to order my lower parts kit from them & who knows? If at the time they have a crazy sale, I'll get their $50 stripped lowers I have the itch to buy more parts for my first build. Think I mentioned earlier when this thread was started but all I have is a handguard, bolt carrier group and iron sights. Few things on the list I may buy soon:

*BCM stripped upper(comes with the dust cover & assist)-A blemished one for the savings
*BCM Gunfighter charging handle
*Yankee Hill low profile gas block
*PSA lower parts kit with Ergo grip sans trigger control group
*Geiselle Automatics- Super Dynamic Combat 2-stage trigger
*Battlecomp 1.0 compensator
*La-Rue's new pistol grip(A-Peg)
*A1 USGI buttstock assembly from Fulton Armory

Then I'd just need someone's stripped lower, someone's 1 in 8" twist barrel, magazine lock, Solar Tactical grip wrap and a mid-length gas tube and I'm good!

Oh...10-round magazines and ammo would be nice too.

We have a DPMS that has been acessorized out a bit that is
a great shooter. The Insight pressure activated light will
blind anything out to 100 yards

Scoped for long range unwanteds on the property and the
Quick detach is nice for the up close work. Take it off and
flip up the Troy Sights and its dead on for the closer in work.

Ready for the ZAMBIES

Now her new PINK M&P

She just got it yesterday so will get some rounds thru it this weekend.

My vault now holds 3. A Ruger Mini 14 SS, one of the very first made in SS. A Bushie M4 and a R.R.full size. I do not have a S&W YET, but soon no doubt.

As I'm not a person to hang all sorts of stuff on my weapons mine are reasonably stock. All 3 have slings, the Ruger has a a folding stock I put on when I bought the gun and it also has its peep sight drilled out a bit for faster work.

I bought the 15-22 for my son for Christmas, so he would have something better to shoot while I was shooting my chainsaw.

But I enjoyed shooting it a little too much. Started looking into AR-15's, but I couldn't find one configured the way that I wanted. After a lot of research, I decided to build the one that I wanted with parts from PSA.

It has a 16" stainless steel barrel with the .223 Wylde chamber and YHM Diamond rifle length quad rails. Tacstar grips, "Zombie Hunter" take down pins and magazine release. Magpul "Zombie Hunter" rail covers (I had to order another set in green for my son after he saw mine). JP yellow springs. It shoots great, but I will be doing a little trigger work on it next time that I am home.

Your trigger seems broken, it is stuck on fire! Us Kalifornians never seen that!!

Looks awsome, I just picked up a PSA dissy upper as well to add to my small collection. They are built solid.

Who makes that lower again? I recognize it. That Magwell blows my mind for some reason haha. I'm guessing it's billet and it looks like the trigger guard is part of the receiver, I dig that! My wild guess:Sundevil?

Yep the magwell it what made me want it. It's a seekins precision lower. And yes it is a billet lower with a fixed trigger guard. Top notch tactical also makes one though top notch is not selling stripped lowers currently.

It also has an ambi bolt release which is pretty awsome and wish I had on all my lowers.
