Default How many own a .223/5.56

Apologies if there is a thread for this but I couldn't find it. Question is how many of you also own a .223/5.56 (S&W, other complete or custom build) in addition to your 15-22? Did you have it before you got a 15-22 or did 15-22 lead you to the higher caliber?

15-22 came first.

15-22 led to the 15-Sport

15-Sport led to a budget AR Build.

Got the Colt AR15 from a friend back in 2007, it was totally stock.
Just finished up before this past Christmas getting it modded to the way I wanted it, and it pretty much look just like the 15-22 MOE.
The only Colt item left on it is the lower and the pencil barrel now.

Picked up the 15-22 a few weeks before Christmas.

Ruger Mini-14 in 1976; M&P15-22 in 2011. Also have a Ruger 10/22 and 77/22, both purchased in the mid-80s.

Not to go way off topic, but what are the details of your build?

I purchased my MP15-ORC and a pre-ban Colt AR-15A2 Sporter before I found the MP15-22. My first time shooting was with a friend who happens to be an AR nut and just happens to work for Colt in a very AR intensive position... In fact, my avatar is a picture of my first range visit shooting one of his Colt AR's. I turned his obsession into mine.... I think I have like 7-8 various brand and model AR's. There is so much you can do with them. They remind me of Harleys, you build them to suit your needs and for your own enjoyment. There are just so many options available. Here's a quickie pic of most of them, from lt to rt... MP15-22, MP15-ORC, PWA lower\custom Colt upper, Colt pre-ban, Eagle Arms pre-ban, Colt AR15-9mm, custom upper on the floor.

Cool

I got the MP 15-22 first about a year ago, got hooked and bought a Daniel Defense M4V7 with Crazy Money!!!

JaPes, take the cheek riser and flip it backwards, not only it looks better, but functionally, you will be able to pull the charging handle without moving the stock back from closest position. You have the extended Magpul butt pad, so the cheek riser won't dig on your shoulder.

First one was a S&W M&P15 MOE (the wife named this one "Stooge" because it's a "Moe")

Second one was a homemade AR (my wife calls it "Frahnkensteen" - a nod to the movie Young Frankenstein - because it's made up of parts from different companies):

And then a 15-22 (my wife calls this one "Patches" because it's all different colors Foliage Green, FDE, and OD green, and black (not shown in picture)):

While I'm here, I'll also add that I have two 1911's, and the wife calls both of them "Thumper".

In case you were wondering, I've had to adopt this naming convention because when she says wants to shoot a particular weapon, she uses the names she assigned, and I have to know what they are so I can get the desired weapon out of the safe.

I removed the cheek riser because i just didn't like it. The pic of my 15-22 is old.

My 15-22 is back to the standard M4 stock & grip. I transferred the MagPul furniture to my AR build.

Started with a 15-22 when I was first getting into firearms due to cost. Didn't want to spend a lot of money if I didn't love it as much as I thought I would.

Turns out I loved it even more than I thought I would and built this bad boy myself:

Do you have any varmint or big calber AR's, I'm still wanting a 204 and at least a 308, maybe a few more.. Also, gonna need a few more M4carbine approved, milspec guns..

Bought my 15-22 last April, along with a 22a. It eventually led to my buying a m&p15a about a month who. Just ordered another 15-22 now, should be here Tuesday.

Got my 15-22 last fall, and the madness began. I just finished putting together my new toy last week. 5.56 includes:
- Daniel Defense 14.5" barrel, upper receiver
- Spikes enhanced lower with upgraded trigger & buffer
- Troy 13" rail and sights
- BCM bolt carrier group and charging handle
- Magpul STR stock, AFG, mags
- Surefire G2X tactical in a Gear Sector mount
- YHM flash hider (pinned & welded)
- Aimpoint PRO on order and should be here next week

Then it rode in a gun rack in my pickup on the ranch for 20 years. Lots of critters bit the dust during that time.

It is still on duty in the corner within arms length at the end of my desk.

Default Great for you....., but not for me.

I'm sure I'll catch flack for this, But a 15-22 is below the bottom of my list of .22's. To me, it is like a Camaro SS with a six-cylinder motor. Blasphemy. My Bushmaster is an incredible firearm. I see that many love the 15-22. I guess I have a problem with look-a-likes. I remember when the Taurus looked VERY similar to a S&W. Blasphemy. I hope all that own the 15-22 shoot safely and have a great time with them. Just not my cup of tea. Blessings all around..............

I would have owned a 5.56 AR by now but with so many different calibers, platforms, actions, etc. it's really, REALLY hard for me to stick with the plan. I never completely forget about whatever particular gun I'm lusting over, it just takes one seat behind the driver's seat and continues to move down(but never leaves) with other gun lusts stacking up on top of each other. My AR consists of Troy fixed battlesights(HK front) and a Troy TRX extreme 13" handguard. Had a standard lower parts kit by Bushmaster that I got at a good price but I sold it for chump's change =/ Almost bought a stripped lower but my main interest right now are cowboy guns.

PSA is definitely one of the companies I'm looking at. I've been browsing their options. Thanks for the headsup on them.

Funny that you say that. My brother owns a couple ARs and when he shot my 15-22 today he said he will probably get one. There's a time and place for everything and plinking pop cans and stuff is a lot cheaper with the 15-22. Plus, its nice to have a gun that has some swappable parts with the AR.

The reason for that is the first Taurus revolvers were identical to the respective S&W models. They were built on the same tooling S&W used in its South American production facility. Taurus simply bought the entire plant, including the entire production line, from S&W. Same deal with their first line of semi-autos; they bought the Beretta plant and tooling and made Beretta pistols by another name.

I had one chambered in .40 S&W. It was the softest shooting .40 S&W pistol I ever had my hands on. Non-tilt barrel & near inline feeding from the mag meant it never jammed. The rotating barrel design radially dissipated a portion of the recoil energy, less muzzle flip.

Sold it because I trimmed down my semi-auto handgun calibers to .22lr (practice), 9mm (primary), and .45ACP (SR1911 for fun).

I've been itching to get a PX4 Storm Inox 9mm.

Just completed my custom build. I had the 15-22 first, but had intentions on a big brother. It has spikes tactical upper and lower, rock river 2 stage trigger, BCM Gunfighter charging handle, MOE front handguard, MOE trigger guard, MOE grip and MOE front grip and of course MOE Buttstock. I think I'm a walking billboard for MOE stuff. But I kept it like its little brother and all the furniture is FDE.

I have an LWRCI M6A2 with Harris bipod and eotech halo and magnifier. Will try to get pics up later. The range was getting too expensive with the 5.56 and my .40 Glock so went out a couple weeks ago and picked up the new Ruger sr22 pistol and the MOE 15-22, haven't hardly shot the big calibers since! The .22's really are a blast and you can afford to shoot so much more often.

I built my AR15 5.56 a couple years ago as my first rifle. Since then I've gotten another lower receiver to build another AR. The lower is complete as of Christmas and now waiting on a new upper. With the tax return, I decided to buy a 15-22 specifically as a trainer to my 5.56 so that I can save some money practicing weapons handling skills, reloads, target transitions, etc.

It is an original Armalite AR-180 which is the semi-auto version of the AR-18. The AR-18 being the cross between an AK-47 and an M-16. It is the stamped receiver, gas piston version of an AR-15. The gas piston system is what many modern gas piston systems were modeled after. The "Beta" to the M-16's "VHS".

The quick release "no-re-zero" scope mount while not perfect was way ahead of it's time.

Mine is serial number S0003xx.
