Default Lockable gun Rack for m&p 15-22

I searched for lockable gun racks on this forum and on the web, but I could not find a good link.

I am leaning towards buying a lockable gun rack of some sort (for my M&P 15-22 that is on order). I don't have enough room for a safe at my home, unless I put it in the garage. Any recommendations out there. I did see this one online: Rifle Racks : Locking Wall Rifle Rack | Locking Gun Display Racks

But, I am not sure it would be a feasable one to use because someone could push out the pins on the the rifle and possibly wiggle it out. Or, am I in being paranoid?

There are smaller safe's on the market that would be more secure than that wall rack. A cordless angle grinder would cut thru the lock in a matter of minutes.

A safe is going to cost more money but it will also serve to store other valuable items, papers, jewelery or what ever items that are of value to you.

Put a safe in the garage then I did and am really happy with it. It's the Liberty Centurion 12. MUCH, much better than a stack-on security cabinet. I'm not going to pretend like it's the most secure thing in the world, though. After all, it is Liberty's lowest end model but it's at a great price, offers pretty good security AND fire rating. I don't know much about lockable gun racks. If the lock isn't broken, could it be pried right off the wall? I think there would be less of a chance for a burgler to know that you own guns if it's inside a safe and that thing is kind of hidden or they don't go inside your garage at all as opposed to some long guns displayed right there.

Yeah, you are right. A burglar could even use the grinder that I have in the garage. I guess I am going to have to man-up and buy the safe.

hold on a second. anything that looks like a gun safe means that there must be guns inside. anything that looks like a tool box/job box means that there must only be some tools inside. get it? dollar for dollar, you probably won't get any better security for a 15-22 than with a pawn shop job box. good luck with it

Place a huge Army banner over your safe so no one knows what it is if they're passing by
What's a "Pawn shop job box"?

A shop tool box is fine for tools. I'm sure the wife would love to have one in the corner of the dining room, which is where my vault stood for several years.

If all one has is one or two firearms, then a small strongbox of some kind, hidden back in a closet will do. But if one's collection included several long guns and handguns, then a vault (or safe, if you want to call it that) is a necessity.

It's an INVESTMENT, just like your firearms. A typical collection can easily exceed $25k, but even if it's only $10k, a grand for a decent vault is only a small fraction of your total investment.

Definitely. I only own 3 (almost 4, it's on layaway) and I'm very happy I bought my little safe. I had an AK-74 on layaway but cancelled it because the Liberty went on sale.

a pawn shop tool box is what's left over after all of the tools have been stolen out of a jobox and pawned off

Another option would be to dedicate a closet in your home as gun storage. Install a solid exterior door with a good lock and dead bolt. Secure a rack inside to the wall studs. Easy and cheap. Not fire proof, but it will provide security from the common break in. Out of site, out of mind.

Just remember, tools are the #1 item stolen and sold to pawn shops.
It would be a real bicchh to go home, find the tool box missing.... then see it for sale at a pawn shop (Empty) for $5.

A locking cabinet that does not look like a gun safe is the least obnoxious and draws the least attention to it. I have built several beds for folks where there are drawers built into the bed bottom. Some have a panel covering and do not open.......... unless you know where the key is, and where it goes.
On the mild minus side, these are not fire proof. But hey, when we are talking about not having the means to keep a 700lb safe around, the gun bed becomes a very good solution.

I like the bed idea and I really wanted a safe. But, I ended up buying a security cabinet from Walmart that supposedly holds ten rifles for $99, plus .97 shipping. My gun collection consists of a Hi-Point .380, a Phoenix .22, and my new Camo'd M&P 15-22. I don't have a high dollar collection. I just want to have a way of keeping my guns away from my children. Here is the link for anybody who is interested:

I had the same problem. A safe for $800 to 1 k was over kill but I wanted something to keep my two teenage sons friends out when they came over and I was not there.Just make sure you anchor it down so the whole thing is not carried out.So mine saved the day one time when the one boy had a party that got larger than it should have. We were out of town and 150 kids went thru our house. Two or three bad kids tried to get in the Walmart $100 special with a tire iron. It saved the day. $100 trying is better than nothing.

Also I do shutter at the thought of my guns being stole but really what the guns did like shot someone would have been much worse. Until you can get a good safe buy the Walmart and use it for ammo storage etc later on. That party cost the insurance company $14 k in missing and damaged items. If he did not have a mother I would have probably been in jail now.He lied about it and said someone broke in the house and had a party-yeah right. HE LIED BIG time and several times. Good topic. No guns for him when I,m gone.

Holy Moses. If my safe was broken into, I'd have to call the National Guard or the marines. 10 beat cops would not be enough.
NOTE: They would not be for searching for my stuff. They would be needed to protect the crumudgeons who took my stuff. If you are gonna steal from me..... best bet is to steal a shovel. That way, you can dig a hole that will fit you comfortably.

Glad your safe held it's own in the fight!!

Even if you have a small collection like me, you can put other important stuff in your safe too. I wouldn't discourage someone getting a good safe if they have the space & money. If I had my own place, I would have gotten a 30 gun safe in the $1,000-2,000 range just for my 3 Plus ammo, spent brass, parts, cleaning kit, camera, etc. etc. Wish I could stop at a small handful of guns but you all know that's not going to happen haha. The $800-$2,000 investment is only a small price to pay for how many people end up with.
