I run a Silencerco SS Sparrow on my 15-22. With Remington subsonic, the slide racking is the loudest part of the firing process. The sparrow is about the easiest suppressor to take apart and clean. Check with MAJOR MALFUNCTION - Class 3 III NFA dealer - suppressor / silencer sales for a Sparrow. Good people to deal with. It took me about a month to get the Sparrow and about 6 mos. to get the tax stamp. It is hard waiting but well worth it. The only "down" side is that you are going to enjoy shooting so much that you will need more ammo and a .22 pistol host. If you have anything else just pm and I will answer what I can. I will get some pics up.

I would look at Liberty suppressors. They are a quality build, may be taken apart for cleaning, quiet, available in most calibers/configurations, rimfire should be 500$ easily, often they may have what you want in stock. Now the bad part- My "Torch" for the AR went pending 1/13/12 at ATF, I may get it by JUNE. From what I have been told there are approx- 12 examiners for the whole USA so getting the Tax stamp is what takes time. As for liberty , I spoke to them, decided what I wanted, paid for it, and their paperwork for me to fill out and send to ATF was there in 3 days, with SIMPLE instructions. I called them with a few questions and they were pleasant and helpful. You can call Rob @ 610-944-1992 to order or with any questions. It is pleasant talking to someone who uses and knows the product they are selling. You can also see his you tube videos with demonstrations, his screen name is -> ALLCHONDRO. Look at them all Liberty, Silencerco,AAC,Surefire, and compare workmanship, effectiveness, life expectancy, ease of use and price. Enjoy. Be Safe.

are you talking 500 altogether or 500 after tax stamp? You will be hard pressed to find one for that price after tax stamp. well a good one. and BTW, dont call them silencers call them suppressors, thats too much fodder for the antigunners.

You get out here to Florence I'll let you try some of the demo suppressors I keep on hand.
I sell a lot of the Tactical Innovation TAC 65 suppressors, and people love them.
They run about $225, and are able to be disassembled for cleaning.
That with the $200 to the ATF and you're still under your $500 limit.
Time frame varies, if you're in Pima County it can take a while (2 to 3 weeks) for Sign off from the LEO, in Maricopa it's about the same plus extra paperwork.
Here in Pinal sign off I can get done same day, it all depends on your county, if you do it through a trust, no sign off needed.
Approval from ATF is running right around 6 months.
Here's a pic of a TAC 65 on a Walther P22.

AWC is in Phoenix and sells at retail to "civilians". Their .22 rimfire Valkyrie SS model sells for $395 plus sales tax and the tax stamp. Expect to wait 6 months for ATFE approval (they're very busy covering up their Fast and Furious debacle...).

The movies make most people believe that all you hear is a "Pfffft" when you fire a silenced weapon. The closest you are going to get to "Pffft" is with a semi-auto .22 and a high quality suppressor that has been dunked in water or had a liberal gob of white lithium grease added. I shoot two types of suppressors one AWC Nexus III in .45, and an Advanced Armament Co. Evo .40, they are both used in HK USP Tacticals, both of them were in the $600 range w/o tax stamp. Both of them partially disassemble for cleaning and I have found that a can of brake clean and compressed air is the hot ticket, they have been used and cleaned around 10 times with absolutely no damage to finish or internals. The 45caliber is basically sub-sonic and is about as loud as stomping your foot real hard onto a floor, the .40 needs to be loaded with heavy 185gr bullets to achieve sub-sonic velocity and is again about that loud. Both of these suppressors allow for you to index them to the barrel, accuracy does not suffer. You can shoot either one of them without ear protection although I still do to protect what I have left. You pay for what you get, on the order of a rifle scope, why put a $150 scope on a $1000 rifle. Both of the above named companies basically guarantee their suppressors for life...I like that.
In Washington State it is now legal not only to own but to use a suppressor, except for hunting (as of this year)

About the only thing you can do is get 2 passport size photos, and 2 fingerprint cards done, in the ORI section of the fingerprint cards it must read:
WVATF0800
ATF-NFA BRANCH
MARTINSBURG, WV
The Form 4 can't go in until the dealer you buy your suppressor from has it in hand as the serial number has to be on the form4 prior to submission.

Not to complicate things but you may want to consider getting your suppressor through a trust. When you get a suppressor it belongs to you and only you. If you get it through a trust it belongs to the trust and any name in the trust. If something happens to you what happens to your suppressor? You cannot pass this on to someone in your will. If it is in a trust anyone's one named in the trust can take it to the range. I also believe it is purchased through a trust you don't have to get the sheriff to bless the paperwork and get finger printed. Not sure of all the details but a lawyer will most likely be needed. It's worth checking into. A quick internet search will give you some beginning details.

A form 5 can be done that will transfer the NFA item to your next of kin, no new $200 tax need be paid.

Correct, you also don't need photos.
All you do is send in the form 4 with a copy of your notarized trust documents.

I can testify the above is true and correct.
My suppressors were purchase through my FLP and no photos, no signature from LEO or finger prints.
All in my FLP can take it out to shoot.
You have to get a certificate of your FLP of Good Standing.
This you can print from the your State webpage and I didn't have to send anything notarized.
