Default Sight Question?

Hey Guys I am new to the Forums here but have followed them for a little while now. I Want to ask you all about a few sights to add to my 15-22. I love red dot sights and the one i am looking at is a vector Optics Red/Green Dot Sight MDL Vortex Stinger.

Link here - Amazon.com: Vector Optics Red/Green Dot Sight MDL Vortex Stinger: Sports & Outdoors

and I would like to add a 3x mag. behind it for the long range shots.

Link here - Amazon.com: UTG 3X Magnifier: Sports & Outdoors

Tell me what you guys think of this combo (pros-cons). Also let me know if the two will marry up with the mounts that they have (same height). Thanks again everyone. Hope to hear from you guys soon.

Thanks
Chris

At what distances do you like to shoot? Are you a long range shooter? It all depends on your shooting, purpose of use, and intended outcome.

That dot sight has a 4MOA dot.

1MOA covers 1" @ 100yds.

If you try to make a 100yd shot, that 4MOA dot will cover 4" of your target. It will make it difficult to make a more precise shot.

For close targets, no problems.

I have a Bushnell Trophy T-Dot on my 15-22 that has a 1MOA dot. I love it.

I have a Primary Arms M3 clone on my 15-Sport. It has a 3MOA dot. It works, but it can be frustrating at longer ranges.

For comparison, I have a 5MOA dot mounted on a shotgun. My shotgun is for home defense, and I don't plan on shooting long distances with it.

For plinking, the UTG 3X magnifier should work fine. I've never had any issues with UTG products.

Keep in mind that the 3X magnifier will also magnify the dot. Even though the dot looks bigger, the background is magnified so the dot will still cover/obscure the same area on the target.

An Eotech dot doesn't appear to increase in size with a 3X magnifier. Put a 3X behind an Eotech, and the outer ring magnifies but the dot stays at 1MOA.

This is because the dot on an Eotech is really 1/3 MOA. The dot is diffraction limited by your eye and appears to be 1MOA unmagnified. So magnifying X3 makes it look like 1MOA.

If you want an affordable dot & magnifier combo for your 15-22, check out Primary Arms.

Thanks for the Reply. I am now looking at a UTG Red dot for the 15-22 that has a 3.5 MOA. The 3x Mag and the red dot will only be Used for plinking at the maximum 100 yds. I think the 3.5 MOA will do just fine. Thank you for the input it was a lot of help.

Thanks again
Chris

Here's an option. It's what I run on my 15-22.

It's the Vortex Strikefire. It has a variable sizing dot and intensity. Can even be used with nightvision.

A big plus is it comes with a doubler. Just screw it to the eyepiece and your ready to go.

Mate it to a UTG medium 3 slot riser and you'll have a perfect co-witness.
It also comes with its own mounting ring. I chose the standard low mount ring because I swap the sight back and forth with another rifle. You have the option of choosing the AR riser with the sight if needed.
