Default Trigger pins falling out

Is this typical?

I've got about 1K rounds now and the pins have repeatedly tried to go AWOL. The hammer spring will not stay in the groove. I have the OEM parts but I'm considering the spring mod or an aftermarket trigger. I just installed the KNS trigger pin retainers as many here recommend them.

I wonder if longer factory pins might help this?

Not sure how the detent spring would have an effect on the trigger pins.

Could you take some pictures of your fire control group from various angles? It could help us diagnose your problem.

I have 10,869 rounds through my 15-22, and the trigger pins are still where S&W put them. No, it is absolutely not typical.

1. Did you purchase your firearm new from a reputable seller?
2. Did you make any changes or modifications to your firearm prior to this problem? (I'm assuming you installed the KNS retainers in an attempt to solve this?)

1. Yes. I just got back from the shop just now. They said it was not typical either. I wanted a better trigger so I brought home a 3# group and a new grip too.

2. Yes, as an attempt to solve it. I'll try to see how it works with the new stuff.

Thats my bad, I read through it to fast and thought he was talking about his takedown pins. Now that I know what he meant, Have you removed the pins often? it can ware out the holes being as they're plastic.

I've had the rifle for two weeks. I removed the pins for the first time tonight to install the new Timney trigger group. They have partially come out 5x by themselves in the last two weeks. The trigger pin fell out, by itself today while the rifle was leaning over and compelled my trip to the store. I'll test the the new mods this weekend.

The new K grip and trigger group are a world of difference to the fit and function of the system. Much better. The OEM pins were loose with the new FCG too. I have confidence the KNS pins will keep the drop-in FCG in place.

It's all good, we all have those days.

To the OP, I would still like to see some pictures of the trigger group to help us help you figure out the problem.

I've been shooting this system (in 5.56mm) for 30+ years and have never experienced a pin falling out nor do I recall anyone in any of my units having this happen.

The hammer spring leg fits in an groove in the trigger pin and keeps it in the rifle. M&P15-22 uses a standard pin and fire control parts. Spin the trigger pin in a drill press and deepen the groove if you're having problems not solved by properly positioning the spring leg.

Note the trigger and hammer pins are the same part number. One may have a better notch. Try swapping them. Ensure the leg goes in the groove. The M&P15-22 receiver is thicker and hitting the groove make take some adjustment.

Not right.
I had a gun that all but shot the hammer and trigger pins out and they were inferior parts. I replaced the pins with ones that were correct and now the thing runs like a spotted ape. Actually the entire FCG was a bunch of rejects and with new authentic Quality Parts replacemnts, the difficulty disappeared.

Thanks for the help All.

I too have been shooting ARs for now for 18 yrs and have never seen a trigger pin fall out. It does not appear that the hammer spring groove is too shallow but the spring legs do jump out of the groove after 100+ rounds. Although it does not matter now as the 3# Timney FCG is installed and the KNS pins are keeping everything in place. The KNS/M&P 15-22 pins are as loose as the OEM pins but they fit the full width of the receiver.

I really like this new trigger group. No slop and light break.
