I could go on listing all my rifles & why.. but I wont..
and yes, I have owned a Ruger.. ( my club where I teach uses nothing but Rugers as 1st level training guns) and IMO there **** !! they dont feel right, & they are all temperamental .. dont matter how many mods you do... but, that said.. it is a rifle that oozes money, how much do people spend on them ??
just to say... I bought a mp15-22 cos its great at what it does.. but, it could be better... with 1 addition.. and it would piss all over any Ruger out there then....

Not likely unless you come up with a bull barrel replacement also for the 15-22. My 15-22 PC model is about 2 MOA at best with a total of $1K into it. On the other hand my Rem 597 also has about $1K into it. The 597 is capable of sub-MOA accuracy (about .5 MOA). My 597 has won my clubs last three rimfire rifle metallic silhouette championships. In that same 3 year period my 15-22 has won 5 club rifle speed shooting championships, 1 state Steel Challenge Carbine division championships, and helped me finish in the top 25 in the last 2 Ruger Rimfire World Championships. Right tool for the right job. Even with an alloy upper you will never get the 15-22 much below 2 MOA unless you get a barrel made and that will still leave you at 1 MOA at best. The AR-15 itself is at best a 2 MOA rifle out of the box. If you want to improve the 15-22 some then do the riser thing but also replace the plastic quad rail with a metal full floating handguard, like a Troy or a Samson. That way the barrel nut is locked into a metal handguard which will do more for accuracy that an alloy upper with a plastic quad rail.

I have had weapons from the time I was 10 a Stevens 22. Never gave much thought to a modern style. I like the idea of a build could I put a m&p 15 together as a dedicated 22?
I have looked into it and found if I am right the AR 15 lower will not fit a M&P 15-22? have watched a lot of videos on YouTube about building a AR but really how hard is it? Bunch of answers? like how much would it cost about? And what needs to be bought? As I said I know a bit but probably just enough to be dangerous! I do shoot larger Cal 44. But the 22 is easy and with the 10 yo grandson he can shoot it. My other unknown is how interchangeable are parts? From say the M&P to say Colt that probably a bad choice but you get the idea plus this may be a bad thing to ask but would it be better to just stay with just one company for the complete rifle?
I know long post but just to many things and not many I can ask. Here guns in Illinois are scary for the media believers! I don't dare start into that LOL.

If you want to build the most accurate .22 AR you can you will need some parts in particular. The barrel for one. The most accurate .22 AR barrel is the carbon fiber sleeved bull barrel made by Taccom. Add to that the stainless steel CMMG bolt group. Most of the rest of the parts don't matter but if you want it light Taccom also sells a carbon fiber handguard and a carbon fiber stock (I have them and they are on my 597 right now). You will need a trigger adjustable to around 1-1.5 pounds so that will mean a Jard, Timney or CMC trigger. The rest of the parts are totally up to you. That will produce the best and most accurate .22 AR you can build today. For about $1200-$1500.
Or you can just put a decent $200 trigger in a $400 15-22 and have fun.
