Default Modding My New 15-22

I picked up a new 15-22 this weekend, decided to do a little work to it. I liked the look of the "Tacticrayola" thing, so I gave it a try. I am down to the "M&P" logo to go, but I am taking my time and making sure it looks good. Had an extra Nikon 4-12x40 in the closet so I mounted that up, works really well for a groundhog gun. I also have a sling and new pistol grip coming which should be here this weekend, pretty excited about those.

I have been thinking about forward grips, any good suggestions? I can't decide if I want to go with a mag well grip or an AFG...

Cheers,
FS

I vote for the AFG2, as well.

The MagWell is not a direct fit for the 15-22 because the lower is wider than MilSpec and the MW will need some work with a Dremel tool to make it fit. It's not a popular addition to the 15-22.

Nice job on the lettering.

I put a magwell on mine and took a lot of grinding, filing and fitting. It wasn't the simple installation I saw on the web somewhere

The other thing to consider with the MW, is many 15-22s have feeding problems when the magazine or factory mag well is used as a forward support. Adding the MW can exacerbate any such problem.

Another vote for the AFG... Mine works great for me... As for the MW grip I see the potential feeding problems also...

As an experiment, I mounted a folding grip on the farthest left SIDE of the forestock, with a laser attached just ahead of it. It lets me control the muzzle better than any other location because my left-index finger points straight ahead and therefore where I point, there I shoot. It may sound odd and it isn't for long-distance work (bi-pod and scope for that) but it seems quite natural after a while and I wouldn't go back to a grip on the bottom rail for anything even though this looks rather odd. (I used a folding unit so it wouldn't be so awkward to store or transport.)

That grip is similar to a 3-gun AR shooters grip. You can improve it even more by replacing the 15-22's quad rail with a good aftermarket AR modular free floating handguard. That will allow you to grip 1-2 fingers around the end of the handguard providing maximum leverage and control of the front of the rifle. This is how the top shooters in the Ruger Rimfire Challenge use either an AR15-22 or an AR w/.22 conversion kit or upper.

when we go back east to IN and the soy beans are just about ready, we have boocoo whistle pigs in the fields. none out here in AZ that i have found, just badgers! anyway, last year, we shoot off the old wood fence down into the field when we see the little buggers and the AFG got in the way of resting on the fence rail. tried my sticks and it still was in the way, so i swapped out for my stubby vertical and presto, had plenty of room for the gun to rest on.
although i prefer a .22-250 for them, the little .22 will work with good shot placement in your comfort yard zone.
