Default Information Request: Color fill logo question

What is everyone using to colorfill the rollmarks/logos? I have 2 Spikes AR's with colorfilled roll marks and my oldest son (almost 6) wants an "AR" for his first gun. He's really good and very responsible so I feel skipping the bb's and pellets to go with the M&P15-22MOE is a good birthday gift. Plus it would require direct supervision from me, and use only at the range (not the backyard) whenever he has it in his hands.

I dont know if the polymer will allow mistakes if I use model paint. Will fixing the painting errors with mineral spirits damge the finish? For those who have gone the crayola route-has it held up in high exterior ambient heat or heat from the gun?

Thanks.

I use the crayola and it has worked fine for me and can be removed or touched up with ease.

The heat from the gun is no problem and for ambient temp. I live in Montana so hot for us is in the low 90s so I don't know how it would hold up in 100+ temp or in a car/truck with the windows closed.

Yep, crayons are what most everybody uses. I believe there is a thread somewhere that goes into some detail on ways to do it.

Looks like Crayola it is-plus the boys have a lot of it. It gets hot in Michigan but rarely is it ridiculously hot. The fact that touch ups are easy and quick is a plus too.

Thanks again.

i didn't watch the video, but all i did was heat the end of the crayon with a lighter, smear it in the groove and wipe off excess with gun oil. you don't actually have to heat the crayon, but it helps get it into some of the more stubborn grooves.
