15-22 MOE MBUS Sight Height?
Can someone give me an /accurate/ height of the rear Magpul sight on the 15-22 MOE when folded, above the top of the rail? Magpul's site lists 0.51" for both front and rear, when folded down, but every pic I've seen looks like it's higher. Basically, a straight-edge sitting on top of the two folded sights, then measure from the straight-edge to the top of rail.
Also, for my reference, could I get a height of the top of the front site pillar (not shroud) to the top of the rail?
I'm trying to make sure a mount & scope combination will work over the rear folded sight with clearance.

Looks like magpul has it listed right. I just measured and the rear sight folded down was right at 1/2". The second part of your question, if you wanted the front sight hight when it's flipped up its just under 1 3/8" from the top of the rail to the front sight post.

I'll be darned; it really looked higher. Anyhow, that's great, I think I'll have the clearance I'm looking for then. Thanks, I appreciate it! :-)

No problem, if it helps the front sight flipped up at the very top is 1 1/2. Post some pics when you get your new scope.

I'll definitely do that. I had estimated the total front sight height at 1.5", and that's what Magpul says as well. I guess they know (as they should).
If your ruler is still handy, could you confirm the height of the rail top above the barrel centerline. Or on a MOE model, the distance from the top of the top rail to the bottom of the bottom rail. I'm figuring about 2.4" overall, or 1.2" CL to rail top.

No. No sir. You can not just come in here, lay down some "I think I'll have the clearance Im looking for", and walk back out !!
Thats not how this works at all. No sir.
Now then, do tell.

Hehe... Not sure if you're kidding or not. All I'm trying to do is determine what scope/mount combination I can mount above the folded sights on on a 15-22 MOE. The two mounts I'm looking at are 0.95" and 1" from the top of rail to bottom of 30mm scope tube, making the distance from top of rail to scope CL 1.54" to 1.59". If the folded sight is 0.51" tall, and I want, say, 0.1" clearance to the scope (need to allow for a cap thickness), that means the scope's ocular end diameter can be up to 1.86" to 1.96", depending on mount. The UTG 30mm SWAT 3-12X44 Compact scope (one of the ones I'm considering) has a ocular diameter of 40mm or 1.575", so it should work. If the MBUS mount had been close to 3/4", as someone else had suggested elsewhere, it wouldn't have fit.
Anyhow, that's the kind of stuff an excited engineer does, when he thinks he knows the gun he wants to buy, but the only dealer in town with a decent price doesn't have it, so he's over-analying and over-planning everything else due to the lack of a real 15-22 in his hands. lol!

So I'm making layouts (about 7 times this size) in Paint Shop Pro, trying to decide what scope and mount to use. The lower scope is the one mentioned above, the upper is a Mueller APT 4.5-14×40AO Tactical. Since all I can do right now is "plan". ;-)
The small + to the left of the scopes are the location of the eye based on eye relief, so I can hopefully locate them correctly.

Your figuring is correct. Just under 2.5" from the bottom of the bottom rail to the top of the top rail. I have the basic 15-22 model. I would have got the MOE version but there was about a 2-3 month wait on it so I got the basic model right then and there.

Okay, the local store (Palmetto Armory) just lowered the price of the 15-22 MOE today, so I went and picked one up. Also, just ordered the BSA Tactical 4-14x44 Mil-Mil scope from Midway, along with Butler Creek hinged covers. Looks like the scope will clear the sights, and I'll probably go with the Burris AR-PEPR Scope Mount, just because it looks good and has dual clamps.
Now, to accessorize! :-)
Thanks to all those who helped in this thread, I now can confirm the following:
Rear Sight Height above rail: 1.453" (more or less - measuring to a hole, after all).
Front Sight Height above rail: 1.415" (I was surprised that you adjust elevation using the front sight, not the rear).
Overall rail stock height, top of top rail to bottom of bottom rail: 2.402 to 2.412 (varies - it's plastic, after all). But that makes CL of barrel to top rail pretty close to the 1.2" I was scaling).
Folded Rear sight height above rail: 0.51", just like Magpul said it was.
